Dd you watch the 2007 Grand Final? See the hit he put on Brett Stewart? Legal or not it really put a game winner like Stewart off his game. Name me the last time one of our players made someone watch for them in defence.

Not wanting unwanted publicity? Still happy to have Hayne, Finch, Cayless, Hauraki, Paulo, Grothe and even Hindmarsh in the team? All have had their own forms of unwanted publicity at various points. That said, when was the last time Crocker was in the media for the wrong reasons?

Truth is we should be lining up and offering him a decent match payment deal for this year and offloading players for next year to fit him in.

The flipside however is the reason he was trying to go to the UK in the first place - his body. Part of the reason he will retire if he can't get a deal in the UK is his alleged inability to cope with the training to keep him at the peak fitness due to ongoing injury concerns.

That said the powers that be should be lining up to get him if he wants to play.
it sure did! - being carried off the field has that effect

I understand that players might not want to change their contracts if they have budgeted based on the exact amount they were signed for.

However, if there is theoretical wriggle room then I think it may not be as hard to convince them as some think.

Who might be our top 4 paid (this is just me guessing, btw)?

Caylo and Hindy - Tempt them with the thought of a better chance of winning a Premiership (due to the fact that I don't think another Crocker will be coming along in the next 2 years)

Hayne and Inu - after the crap you gave us last season on the field, you two damn well owe this team something (which I am sure they will both admit)

25k each for two years gives Crocker 200k.

15k each for two years and Crocker gets 120k, followed by two 40k years on a part-time contract that he will not be expected to fulfill.

I guess the crux of the question HJ is asking is, are the players more concerned with how much they earn or trying to win a premiership?

I know they can't do it for free but I'd like to think that some of the older guys would be prepared to rearrange their contracts for what might be their last chance if it means the club could add some quality. I really can't imagine guys like Hindy and Caylo not having earning potential after their playing days, assuming they haven't been smart with their money already.

Just my opinion!!

sorry mate, I can't seem to grasp the part-time contract idea....I can't see it possible for a player who'll be paid in top 25 bracket also recieve a payment from the club outside that 4 million...Schubert would have us for breakfast on that one.

yep i know threads about Crocker he might bring a bit of mongrel but also a lot of unwanted publicity with him .....chicken wings anybody?

Maybe he`s a bit of a grub at times. But he`s certainly not in the same league as Greg Bird. Glassing a girl in the face? Come on. I think Crocker has a lot more to offer than his toughness, though. He`s a great off-loader and a very intelligent footballer. Got speed still. I reckon he`d be tremendous. Make him captain and he might settle down a bit, too.

I know for a fact that Mal was considering him captain of the Qld SOO when he was first made coach of the Queensland..Crocker however was suspended on a dangerous throw charge and missed out.

I'd like him in the team but the only way we could afford him is if we off-loaded a couple of players. I wonder if the Warriors or Bulldogs would be interested in buying Lowrie & Cordoba

Or Grothe? Or Moi Moi? I don`t rate them very highly.

Throw him in the Top 25 then.

People sign on $1 contracts all the time for the sole purpose of "just in case". The amount of money they sign for should make no difference as the principle is the same.

It should not be a problem since we'd expect it to be counted within the cap and therefore us not playing him would mean we'd know we'd be essentially sacrificing 40k from our cap. That should be our right.

Yeah, let's get rid of the one prop that can make an impact!

I think Moi Moi is very one-dimensional, he`s injury-prone, and I really don`t think he`s going to have a very long career. I`d rather have Crocker for a year or two, to teach some of our young forwards how to play.

Everyone calls him a grub. I can understand why but I think he's just a firey character that plays with a lot of aggresion. Different mold to say Gallen or Bird or even Matai, all proper grubs. I'd have him in the Eels colours.

I think they might have closed that loophole and there is a minimum salary now.
