True, but unfortunately its props and playmakers that create the opportunities in the main for these characters. That's where the toads have excelled in most recent years, and where they look to be well positioned for the future as this thread points out.
As a consequence it's easy to 'pick and stick' when you have the world's best, and you're winning. If not, you have to try to come up with combos that work.

Pick and stick is easy when you are winning. Qld are acting like they invented the wheel. Their sense of self-importance around origin time is sky high.

Don't mind to piss in your own pocket do you. Reminds me of the Aussie cricket team. 5 years ago the set up were apparently genius because they had Gilly, Warnie and McGrath. Now they have apparently turned to the shitter in the absence of those players. Coincidence? I think not.

The day we take advice from Dazzat is the day we may as well give it up.

I think you'll find that NSW's tendancy to switch and drop players is not a new development, and didn't start five years ago when Queensland started their winning streak. Look at the statistics and you'll realise it's been that way since the start of Origin.

NSW have used so many more players than Origin THROUGHOUT ORIGIN HISTORY.

They dropped many, many players five years ago after one series loss. That's two or three games for an individual before they are banished.

nsw- gallen, the end.

Civoniceva, Scott, Hannant, Shillington, Kennedy and Lillyman

vs

Learoyd-Lahrs, Gallen, Mannah, Galloway, Grant and Merrin

That is what it should be.

Then throw in David Taylor vs Tariq Sims, and you have some good battles.

It is the second rowers that are different IMO. The NSW second row consists of tough but smaller and more skillful guys like Beau Scott and Greg Bird. The QLD backrow is giant boppers Nate Myles and Sam Thaiday.

What I would love to see:

NSW - 8. Learoyd-Lahrs, 9. Ennis, 10. Gallen, 11. Bird, 12. Scott, 13. Lewis, BENCH: 14. Gidley, 15. Sims, 16. Mannah, 17. Galloway

vs

QLD - 8. Scott, 9. Smith, 10. Civoniceva, 11. Thaiday, 12. Myles, 13. Harrison, BENCH: 14. Cronk, 15. Taylor, 16. Hannant, 17. Shillington

Would be a much more evenly contested forward battle in my opinion.

New South Wales have better depth than Queensland. The problem is while New South Wales have a lot of pretty good players fighting for a spot, Queensland have 1-3 great players across each position.

NSW have better depth in pretty much every spot. It's just that currently Qld's best are better than NSW's best in most spots. The time will come when this swings the other way.

You may be correct in regards to numbers, but our depth has traditionally been greater than yours and this skews the analysis somewhat. But I get what you are saying.

Yes NSW depth is far greater ... thanks for the admission. Yet depth shouldn't be a determinate in selection policy. Just because you have more players to choose from doesn't meet you have to pick all of them.

Despite having far less players to choose from, Queensland is ahead of NSW in terms of wins ... why is that?

Selection policy would be one ... passion and commitment to the cause the other ...

Why then has Ricky Stuart and every NSW fan been at pains to tell us how NSW has just as much passion?

This would then make that all a myth, no?
