We'll wait for the detail but you may have hit the nail on the head.
We'll see what its about tomorrow. In that's the case, its very smart management and the Titans continue to pull off these coups.

If thats true and the Sharks management didn't know of it, there are going to be some very unhappy shire folk come election time next year.

BUT, this has the ability to derail the Wallabies as he is a pretty key player for them (which shows what a joke the sport is), so WOO!

Bring back Lote and then lets go after the rest of what they have....Will they even have enough quality players to fill 4 tiers of the code? hahahahahahahah

So Mat, Lote and Kurtley Beale... that's it.. the cupboard will be bare for the wallabies.

Gerrard could hold his own imo. Beale couldn't even lead his school to the GPS championship. FFS, every game that Craig Wing played in firsts For Sydney Boys High (In between Flegg Commitments for Souths) they won and won well, so it's clear the 'freak' is nowhere near as good as he is made out to be.

Would Rogers command that much cash? He is getting on and has been in semi retirement for a few years now.

It will be interesting to see how he gets on in rugby after so long playing union.

NRL.com has picked up the AAP press release and have it as their leading news item:

http://svc002.wic104cx.server-web.com/News/Latest/NewsArticle/tabid/76/NewsId/2960/Default.aspx

Matt Rogers' flirtation with rugby union will soon be over.

The Wallaby star will announce on Wednesday he is to return to rugby league and join the Gold Coast Titans for a reported deal of $600,000 over two years.

The move will take place once Rogers, the former Cronulla champion, finishes his contract with union at the end of next season, News Limited newspapers reported.

The Titans have planned a press conference at Jupiters Casino to make the announcement.

Rogers, the son of late league legend Steve Rogers, will join the likes of Scott Prince, Preston Campbell, Brian Carney and Steve Turner at the Titans.

$600,000 over 2 years, a bargain IMO. Now the only question is where will he play!

I wonder if the Titans have enough left over for A. Johns, D. Lockyer, C. Smith and M. Gasnier?

And they said Benji wouldn't lead the tigers anywhere...

Kurtley was leading the Joeys firsts since he was 14
I dunno about you, but i went to a very rugby-minded GPS school and when I was even in year 12 i would have freaked at the thought of going up against some of the people in the firsts, yet this kid did it when he was in year 9

he's good

anyone who can run INTO the Joeys/Riverview scrum with the ball in hand and come out the other side streaking downfield is a pure freak

600K for a fella who will be 32 by then - and particulary for a bloke who's had a number of injuries recently is def. not a bargain - also remember he's a winger and I can't think of any top wingers who would demand that money.

Its Mud in the Eye for Union, who must be devestated that Queensland will Boast 3 Huge Rugby League Clubs in 2007.

The Titans will be massive and this is a huge gain for our sport.

For years I have regarded Union as the "enemy", and the fact that this sport has been the Darling of the media has always given that game a positive spin. But the Wallabies are so very poor when compared to the Kangaroo's, and returning sons like Rogers will add to the selling power of our game

They would have had some dough stashed away with their initial interest in Jamie Lyon... and Mat Rogers is no Jamie Lyon in terms of playing ability and runs on the board imo.

This is great news should it come true. Stick that in your pipe adversarial RU administrators and media lackeys! Your big three "recruits" gradually heading back tails between their legs to opportunities in league. Rogers with this news, Wendell's been crawling up to league ever since his two year ban - next we'll know Lote will be wanting back in too?

It's a better publicity stunt than it is an actual signing. I find it hard to get that excited about this...300K for a 32 year old centre/winger who hasn't played league in 5 years is a bit of a risk really.

have to question it, his age and his injury record in union - in which very few international backs seem to get injured as frequently as him, and he'll have much more collision in league...

Hefty price tag the Titans are paying for him. But guess Souths have been doing the same with other players.

Lote does want back in after the RUWC next year and will probably join one of the big Sydney clubs. There is only so much losing and mediocrity league players can stand.

That sums it up pretty well.

sh*t signing IMHO, but a great kick in the teeth for Union. I wonder if Rat will stop writing his "these League players would be great in Union, come join me" articles every week now?

I'd rather see Lote back, I think he still has something to offer League. He will need to get a lot fitter though to handle the NRL every week.

Rogers' shock NRL return

By Dean Ritchie
September 13, 2006

AUSTRALIA champion Mat Rogers will today sensationally announce plans to quit rugby union and return to rugby league with the Gold Coast Titans.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Rogers, 30, will join coach John Cartwright's side after his Australian Rugby Union contract expires at the end of next season.

Rogers will play the 2007 Rugby World Cup before moving back to rugby league and the region where he grew up.

Gold Coast, the NRL's 16th and newest franchise, has organised a press conference at 9.30am today at Conrad Jupiter's Casino to announce the signing of the dual international.

It is understood Rogers will sign a two-year deal, worth about $600,000.

Rogers, the son of late rugby league legend Steve Rogers, moved from rugby league to rugby union in 2002.

He was rated among the finest rugby league backs of the modern era before shocking the game and signing with rugby union.

His return is a huge boost for the NRL and a major coup for the fledging Titans.

He will join a backline that includes Scott Prince, Preston Campbell, Brian Carney and Steve Turner.
