It might not be just about the money.
If you were a young promising player and you had a choice to be coached by Hasler or Stone...

Gagai came to Newcastle just to play under Wayne.
He had much bigger offers from other clubs, Bulldogs included.

It's understood Bulldogs coach Des Hasler and recruitment guru Noel Cleal flew to Brisbane late last week in a bid to entice Gagai to the Bulldogs.

Even though the Mata'utia brothers weren't involved with the incident over the off season with Stone.. it still might playing a part

Sione is the only player I'd want at the Dogs, the other 2 are ok but nothing like Sione. I think if the Dogs were smart they would have had a crack at Will Hopoate instead for 2016. Maybe you guys would want to have a shot at him? I'd imagine he wants to play fullback but Parra has the number 1 number 1 in the game. Also he two has a band of brothers.

I read somewhere that Fitzgibbon is Broncos-bound, but have no source. I agree, Pat is a long shot in any position - but he's more likely in the back row than at centre. Yes no chance at centre for the Knights or the Dogs, zero chance at the Dogs for back row too. Slim chance for back row here, but realistically is unlikely to ever be a regular first grader. Pete can be a regular first grader, but probably only ever at a team running 9th-16th... which would usually include us, but I can't see where we would use him either.

That sucks about fitzgibbon. He was an excellent prospect and Wayne has poached him. Another big failure from our club if true.

Chanel is quiet good too from what I've seen.

If the club's focus is to develop locals for first grade, then Midley should resign if he cannot sign the brothers.

It is a simple KPI he either delivers for the club or be sacked

Toohey claims the whole Mata'utia thing is basically Haddad playing insurance policies with the boys' futures. ie. we come up short they go to Canterbury. THe only two clubs the boys are interested in by the looks of it. We are not dead in the water just yet with the brothers signatures.

If winning starts at the head office this story explains why the Bulldogs are playing in the GF and we arent. They dont f**k around.

BULLDOGS POACH SIBLINGS, FOR NOW
Newcastle are furious Canterbury got under their guard to sign Sione, Chanel and Pat Mata'utia, arguably the most talented siblings in the game.
However, the Knights have only themselves to blame, as they left it too late to get to the negotiating table. Bulldogs officials identified the brothers as the next big things well before Sione and Chanel made their NRL debuts, and started talking to their management in April.
By the time their Newcastle counterparts opened talks they were already well on their way to stardom and down the track with the Dogs.
The Mata'utia's have agreed to terms with "The Family Club" but the Knights have up until round 13 of next season to provide a better counter offer.

Weren't Sione and Chanel already contracted for 2015 in April? If so wouldn't it have been illegal for the Dogs to approach them before November?

Sounds about right, what exactly does Gids do all week, seems not much.

No doubt the dogs will claim them as Juniors if they end up going. If Pete was in under 12s when they left Bankstown Sione must have been about 6.

Joisus... We've been a reactive club since forever. We won't get anywhere unless we start being more proactive about everything related to the club.

Mind blowing stuff. We really are the hillbilly club arent we?

He said the NRL had spoken recently to British billionaire Marwan Koukash, who has publicly expressed interest in buying an NRL franchise to go with his Super League club, Salford Red Devils.
‘‘The league have made it quite clear they’re not interested in private ownership at this stage,’’ Quayle said.

We've been an absolute rabble at all levels for years, but the club is hardly to blame for decisions that the NRL makes.

Dave Smith wouldn't be keen on another Tinkler style circus I'm sure.
