If I threw a pass like that from Clune at C Grade mixed touch footy at the age of 40, I would hook myself and retire.

I hate that this 14-0 scoreline flattering us. I wish we played the Dragons this week and they put 32 on us in the half.

But Wests come out every week and say he's the right guy to lead and needs more support around him. It's his third year, what more does he need? He's a dud.
If the players can’t respond week after week of being beaten AND the coach saying publicly that they are soft/uncommitted, perhaps we have the wrong players.

This is deadset pathetic. How can we constantly play this shite. Wtf do we do at training all week. Tuala needs to give himself an uppercut for that miss tackle earlier fking disgusting

I think the coach has emotionally exhausted the playing group and over complicated a simple game.

Play with heart and passion - half the job is already done.
It's easy to say play with heart and passion but I truly believe the players don't know their roles out there and where they should be etc.

If you're confused out there then it makes it a whole lot harder to put that effort in.

So yeah I basically agree with you. If they all had a simple plan and focus and knew their individual roles it would be so much simpler to rip in and give ourselves a much better opportunity.

Just look at the players after scoring this try?

Not even f**king excted.. It's almost relief of saving themselves from pure embarassment.

Well you have to ask, have the coaching staff got anyone playing at or above the potential? Genuinely? Any player?

2 questions, 1. How are we so terrible at playing football? 2. How are we still in this game?
I’m at work so can only watch bits of the game, so many errors.

Does it look like the players really care out there today? They have checked out for the season - they are really slow, in everything they are doing. There is zero leadership out there - Ponga isn’t a captain, and no hooker or halfback doesn’t help.

There is zero motivation out there. You can pin some of that on the coach, but he’s not the one out there going through the motions and missing basic tackles.

Hard to believe we're back to square zero...again. I'm past tired of these false dawns. The solution isn't about signings, salary cap etc, that's 3 steps ahead. The first step is fixing club culture at a fundamental level. It's the same old boys club where the inmates run the asylum that it's always been. The roster and play style are so outdated it's laughable but even worse, the club continues to applaud mediocrity.

Any one of us could do a better job at running this club right now. That's not a hot take born of disappointment and frustration, its a genuine factual statement. The Newcastle Knights are a dinosaur club that doesn't want to change and that sets the culture we see translated onto the field every week. Heck, even the average everyday fan feels the same way the club does..."O'brien is a great coach, he's hard, talks tough, he doesn't miss the tackles" or the tired, worn out rebuttal of "He worked under Bellamy!"

The most worrying part of it all is that I'm starting not to care. The Knights losing used to ruin my whole week but last week for example, I didn't even watch one minute of the game. Why should I care as a supporter if the players and staff clearly don't care?

I couldn't disagree more. You're essentially describing the job of a head coach and then saying he's not responsible. Motivation, leadership, energy, enthusiasm, effort, organisation: these are precisely the things the coach should take ownership of, and if he can't influence these things positively, he's not an NRL coach.

Exactly.

Can't just replace every player and then think ok AOB will be good now.

Don't forget, he's also responsible for this very roster.
