I think Dufty played most of his juniors at 5/8. I think he was only moved to fullback in his late teens.

I found out a week or 2 ago that Lateral Mitchell was playing 5/8 in his teens too. Apparently one Newcastle scout saw Mitchell playing 5/8 and picked Brock Lamb ahead of Mitchell.

I think quite a few fullbacks, centres and even wingers would have played 5/8 as juniors.

Franks
He played mostly 6 up to around 16 then fb

Yeah because of his size he is definitely not going to be any good if the forwards aren't going forward. But when they are and in broken play, he looked amazing.

He's exciting to watch.

I hope we have some patience with him MilkShark and excellent prospect however, jeebus 700 K is a tad hot.

Lafai has negatives in his game, as does Aitken, Hunt, Widdop, JDB.......
Why punt Dufty before those other guys?
Widdop, Hunt and JDB have far less deficiencies and far more positives to outweigh them.

Dufty is in a more important position than Lafai and Aitken, a position in which we need quality.

The reality is that our coach has no ability to improve weaknesses or strengthen core skills in an individual player. When that player is ‘hidden’ in the centres being fed by Widdop/Hunt or made to look good by Friz, it’s fine. When the player is exposed by Cheyse Blair or some random bulldogs reserve grader, Mary has no solution to the problem other than try and recruit to cover his weakness.

That being said, I’d gladly f**k Lafai and Aitken off before Dufty.

Of course now we have the lurker linking Dufty to Newcastle. Welcome to the silly season.
I would love to hear that McIdiot is been linked to another club. I don’t think any club would even want him as their water boy

Yes, I was trying to make the point that just because a player has deficiencies you dont necessarily let them go unless you have a superior player to replace them with.
Widdop, Hunt, JDB are 3 of the best in the game but aren't without their weaknesses.
Our centres, well thats a different story.
But is letting a long term talented player like Dufty go and replacing him with Jarrod Hayne the answer?
Or Jai Feild?
Or Alex Johnston?
Craziness IMO

I'm surprised Dufty and his manager showed their hand so early. There is no way that the Dragons would pay him anywhere near that fee.

I'd be playing him in reserve grade in 2019 and bringing in a first grade fullback. Dufty would either ask for a release or we have him cheap for another season as a backup. Just shows you loyalty counts for naught and this junior development road is a mugs game.

Gotta aim high and do it while stocks are high (enough) before the inevitable drop

I would also get rid off Lafai and Aitkin. But to put Widdop and Hunt into that category is stupid. Every player has a weakness but Dufty Aitkin and Lafai have to many.

Yep he will hopefully grow into a star with some patience . I agree 700k is huge, especially when he was hot for the first half of the year only. When players are paid that kind of coin you want consistent performances.
I'm one the first to diss Dufty but this is a ridiculous rumour. There is no way in hell he would be after this kind of money. Where is the source? I've had a look and came up with nothing. Fair play.. Coming from someone who would have liked to see Kurt Mann given a chance after a total of two games at FB.

Geez Crush, why not punt the whole team? Your logic is outstanding...

I wouldn't punt any of them.
You completely missed the point.

Without Dufty in 2018 and Mann in 2016 (also part of 2017) our attack would have been totally listless and fans would have had their heads down between their knees saying continuing to say woe is me.
They provided spark and finishing that had been sadly lacking and gave fans a reason to get on their feet and now both are the whipping boys for many on the forum.
Without these players we would have still been down with the also rans but because they slightly elevated our performances and people could then see a ray of sunshine and some potential, they now wish to be super critical of the very people who gave us that.
What makes anyone even remotely think that unless a couple of absolute superstar comes to this club and completely ignore all of the coaching staff, that anyone is going to get us a better result than what we currently achieve?
Jarryd Hayne FMD schooled us in 1 game and played 2 or 3 other good games and for some a must sign whilst they ignore the obvious deficiencies about him, so easily pleased such a shame.
