Matt Elliot gone!?

Apparently the meeting is going on now, but apparently it is a formality that Elliott and his coaching staff are gone. Pay out will be close to 1 million.

I am a bit annoyed at our club, the way we let Royce, Lang and now Elliott go. There are a lot more professional ways to do things.

I just do not get our club. Letting all our senior players go besides Petro, would leave me to beleive that they were sticking with Elliot.

Can you imagine if we kept Wesser, Priddo and Big T, how they would thrive in a Daniel Anderson game plan.

Oh well, it is water under the bridge now, and we will have Daniel Anderson coaching a team like this next year.

1. Coote
2. Tia-Kilifi
3. Gordon (liked how he went vs Manly as a centre last night)
4. Jennings
5. Daniela
6. Graham
7. Sammut
8. Woolnough
9. Iosefa
10. Civoniveiva
11. Pritchard
12. Waterhouse
13. Lewis
14. Ation
15. Cooper
16. McKendry
17. Grant

I completely agree with this, however it may be that the attitude of these players is more of a problem than we know, I dont like the idea that they are dictating who should coach them, they should STFU regardless and just play, I'm happy to see Wesser and Priddis go, their best is behind them and we have some good young players ready to step in.

That is true, to an extent. But I really doubt that these players would have that attitude, if we had a coach like Bellamy at the helm.

Anyway, to be completely honest, I am excited leading into next season for the first time since the start of the 2004 season.

I just hope our juniors are not too young and getting too much on the shoulders - eg Slater, Smith and Cronk were a couple of years older than our bunch before they took over leading the club - Robbie Ross, Richard Swain and Matty Orford were at the club until Slater, Smith and Cronk were around 20-21ish, not 17 or 18.

I just hope this was the right time for the clean out.

Time will tell.

More smoke and mirrors from Penrith... STILL!
Chairman of the Board Barry Walsh said that the board has had an informal discussion today reviewing the 2008 season and are convening a board meeting within the week at which Matthew Elliott will be invited to attend.

Not offical according to the Panthers website.

Sounds like he gets to pleade his case to the board.

This situation is now boarding on a farce

It's so frustrating.
Just get it over with one way or the other for goodness sake.
Sunday Roast reports it's official, and 2 minutes later the above statement is released by Penrith FFS.

Agreed!
EDIT:
And now the Sunday Roast has said they received a call from Penrith saying they were wrong and no formal decision has been made.
This is just teasing tbh. One second I'm over the moon because it has been made "official" that Elliott has been sacked, and the next I'm gutted because there's a chance we have to put up with another season with a coach who doesn't have a clue.

Quality reporting that.
They're confirming things as official when they're not.
And then they make out like its a big joke and have a laugh about it.
Disgraceful. :x

Is it true that on the pre-game show they said he would see out his contract?
FFS this is ridiculous!

Oh I thought it was scheduled for later on in the week?

What's with Mark Geyer? Is he backpedalling?

Maybe being involved with the club for the season of 2009 he has to choose his words carefully? The thing I loved about the big MG is he always spoke Black and White. It was very grey today.

He said on the Sunday Roast today that he hasn't been approached to do anything with the club next year, however he would really like to...
It's confusing the heck out of me...

A bit more info on PI
Two questions for Andrew:
1. Was Matt Elliott at the board meeting and if not, why not, given the transparency of what the meeting was about?
2. How long will this review go on, in terms on when will this next meeting take place?

Andrew Farrell's response

1. No Matt was not part of todays meeting. Why not? Because it was for the Board to discuss their thoughts on the season.
2. Matt has been afforded the opportunity to meet with the Board tomorrow. We should gain a better understanding of the situation by c.o.b tomorrow.

One thing that is really annoying me about this situation is the people who say "let Elliott stay, we improved this year and didn't get the wooden spoon, and we should improve again next year".
Am I the only person who can see how ridiculous that is!?
We shouldn't have got the wooden spoon in the first place!
And while our position has improved this year, it is still crap! At the end of the day, what the hell is the difference between 16th and 11th-12th-13th (whatever we finish)? Either way we miss the finals, and the season is a failure.
The above opinion is the same as saying "Mr. X is getting paid $400,000 per year to do X tasks, and while we lost 10 million dollars because of his incompetence in his first year, he should be kept for the third year because he made an improvement and we only lost 9 million dollars because of his incompetence in his second year!
Does anyone else agree with me?

The one thing that has really annoyed me this year is/was the continued support behind Elliott from the management we have been given from various media outlets.

A question for all you historians:

How many coaches have retained their job with the complete support of their board, sponsors and fans after receiving a wooden spoon?

I would be very interested if there was someone who could research this and give me detailed answer?

1.We will finish bottom 4
2.Crowds will drop even more average crowds will be 7000
3.I know of at least 3 sponsors that will go
4.Fact the first 3 rows eastern grandstand where i sit season ticket holders 80% have said they will not renew
