I feel sorry for the guy regarding what has happened family wise but you can't honestly expect Prior to get any sympathy after that dog act. I'd give him a little key way if he'd gone out on the piss and played up, but once he's on the field, off field issues should count for squat.

I think you're wrong on that last point. A strong emotion such as grief cannot be flipped over at the drop of a hat. If Prior went into the game last night with a low mindset than that wasn't going to change simply by stepping onto the field.

Also I think it's easily possible that the sheer physical nature of rugby league can combine with a persons emotional state to trigger a reaction.

There is an idea that some players perform poorly when they are undergoing contract negotiations. Another example of off field issues taking their toll.

The most similar instance to this one was Clint newton on Ashton sims in Newcastle. Mind you the judiciary was very different back then but from memory newton copped 10 or 12 weeks.

Despite the similarities, the newton hit was MUCH worse. I think people say 6 - 8 weeks are on the money

I bet at some point this week he says "it's not my go"...

Priors quote from the Telegraph

Prior tried to find Thurston after the game to apologise and said the incident was not in his nature.

"It wasn't a brain explosion, I was just trying to give him a bit of a shoulder charge, it was a bit careless and my elbow got him high and I regret it now."

"I didn't mean to do it and I hope he is OK," Prior said. "It was just careless and dumb and I wish I didn't do it. It was unintentional.

"It's not my go, I'm not that type of bloke. I try to stay away from hitting blokes around the head."

Not intentional?

"I didn't intend to elbow him, he ran into the point of my elbow when I swung it directly at his face"

lol, a shoulder charge where the shoulder moves backwards and the elbow comes up and leads, never mind a wrestling coach he needs a shoulder charge coach!

If Matt Prior is allowed to play again this season after that, I'll deadset give it away.

That was the lowest act I can remember seeing on a football field in a long time. He was clearly pissed off, and deliberately tried to injure Thurston.

I'd be happy if that jerk was given more than just this season off. He has no place in rugby league.

What did Newton get 12 weeks?

There's your starting point.

An intellectually superior person would have read the quote on the previous page that said exactly that but alas DunniesGimp intellect isn't even close to that basic level.

No one is defending what he did, but you seriously want him rubbed out for a season?

Yes he elbowed a player, late, delibrate and in the face.

And his a grub to boot!

Longer the better, I'd be screaming blue murder if he did it to a Sharks player or a New South Welshman.

Where are people getting the impression of him being a grub prior to last night's game?

Not defending what he did, but I've never really thought of him as a grub.

And there it is.
Back at ya. If it wasn't a Dragons player practicing MMA moves you wouldn't be in here getting your panties in a knot.

Likewise if Nancy boy Soward was on the receiving end, would your sympathy for the accused be at similar levels ?
