Melbourne must still be cheating the cap

1. It was a Storm fan who revived the thread.
2. As you can see from the posts above, the horse isn't dead whilst ever Melbourne still benefit.
3. Melbourne players themselves could have killed this horse with a few simple words, but they chose to anger everyone even more with their arrogance.

Melbourne have constantly lost a heap of good players in the last few years.

Cmon, they are mostly no-names except for Slater, Smith and Cronk.

Their other good players have come of age while playing for them.

To say they are still benefitting from cheating is a big stretch. They could have had room to buy a whole new Smith/Slater/Cronk anyway when you look at the rest of their squad.

In one thread we have Cerne Abbas saying Melbourne fans have 'moved on'. Then we get this from Butters and Co. There is still some moving yet to do.

This argument holds no weight for so many reasons...

  • They more than likely would have lost Smith, the games best player.
  • They created a culture based around the Big 4. That culture continues to this day. Anyone that knows anything about culture knows that it is incredibly hard to change. Other clubs have struggled to build a culture because they have players leaving all the time. Melbourne built their culture because they kept their best players.
  • Other players (and probably the Big 3 also) are taking less money to stay, as they want to stick with a "winning team".
  • They still have a few good players - Hoffman and Hinchcliffe to name a couple.
No-one is denying that Bellamy and Co are good at maximising a player's potential. That's not up for debate here. But they are definitely still benefiting from the rorting.

To the people on this forum who say that the Storm are still benefiting from their rorts, why wasn't there an uproar when the Bulldogs won the comp in 2004 with players, most of whom were playing at the time the salary cap scandal occured in 2002?

You're bang on the money. Proof if it was needed that the illegally assembled three and Coach Bellamy are the driving force behind their success.

Without Slater, Smith and Cronk together they wouldn't be half the side.

To say they are still benefiting is a factual observation.

There was, except it took a backseat to the Coffs Harbour scandal. Ironic huh?

We're actually going for our 4th next week mate. Wish us luck!

Premierships that only exist in your head don't count. Good luck in going after your second premiership though. Chances are by this time next week you'll be in a better position "trophy-wise" than the Wests Tigers.

Pointing out that the Melbourne Storm while not "cheating" are still as successful as they were when they were "cheating" is trolling? This thread was originally a no troll zone anyway but the mods decided to ruin that.

The grassroots success the cheated Premierships brought to the Storm has contributed to their success today. Those players who, at the time, wanted to be apart of a successful club were enticed by the winning culture at the Storm. After all that came crashing down, convenience won the day, and all those players which are now backing up the big 3 who chose to remain after the Exodus are about to walk into a Grand Final.

And there we have it folks, conclusive evidence that "cheating" the salary cap does nothing to improve a teams chances to win a premiership. The mighty Melbourne Storm of 2012 after having the guts ripped out of their team only 2 years ago have come back with a vengeance with a team made up of a bunch of hacks and nobodies glued together with the Big 3 and have claimed the premiership trophy with a team well within the salary cap finally putting to bed the issue of whether or not the great achievements of greatest rugby league team of all time (Melbourne Storm 2006-09) had been been unfairly assisted by being paid slightly more than the salary cap would allow.

3 Premierships in 6 years. Deal with it.

The Storm are legit, the whole team is built around their spine, they have a solid core and that spreads strength throughout the whole group and their training regime is very thorough and practiced constantly, they are a classy well drilled outfit and deserve every accolade that comes their way.
