You are loved @parra pete . Just wanted to say hi and I'm sure others will echo my thoughts.

In hitting the wall a few times, facing some of the absolute worst news someone can face, I was surprised which of my friends and acquaintances stood up as well as who didn’t.

Thankfully everything turned out Ok, but I’ve never forgotten the people willing to drop everything and help out.

People who accommodated my kids for weeks and refused to take any money for their keep.

Someone I didn’t know that well, they even wanted to lend me their brand new Mercedes’ indefinitely -but I had transport covered.

So people may care about you and you may not even know it.

Only just came across this (from an article in the SMH) and thought it might fit in this thread...

Might just be me, but knowing there's a few who have also lost their dads (who if they were of a certain age may well have been a fan of the original song), this cover of the Neil Young song might resonate.

Someone in my circle noticed last week that his urine was foamy. Like a lot.

So he went to the Dr and had a range of tests. Frothy urine means high presence of proteins and FFS why isn’t your kidneys filtering them properly ?

Ultrasound shows dark patch 4cm x 4cm on a kidney. Went to specialist yesterday and the markers in the bloods are damning; The mass is a malignant tumour. We don’t poke them, no biopsies, we leave it alone Dr says. Otherwise they can turn themselves inside out and quickly seek revenge.

Tomorrow he gets a full body scan to see if it has metastasized. Lungs is usually the go. They will schedule him for surgery.

He doesn’t have private health insurance, so he’ll be on the wait list. I was surprised that he said 3 months.

Of course nobody knows how this shit starts, but he was a lifetime smoker who recently switched to some sort of a vape cocktail. No, he didn’t exercise, he was overweight and his diet was mostly garbage. That probably describes a f**kton of AU males TBH.

We’re all in a bit of shock, you know that hopeless feeling. Spare a thought for him, not for me. He’s a good guy and honestly doesn’t deserve this shit in his life right now. <sad face>

That is terrible, fingers are crossed for a positive outcome. Your right though it does describe a huge portion of Australian males. I hope your mate uses this scare as a bit of a wake up call to make some positive change not only for his health and lifestyle but for all facets of his life.

Where are we at with the Vape use? I have read a lot of conflicting information about it. Majority of my circle (mainly the men) are always pumping them - especially the blokes with stressful jobs.

well vapes were supposedly to help stop smoking

and now ..............

Although e-cigarettes are almost certainly significantly less harmful than smoking tobacco, they aren't risk free. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive, as well as other ingredients such as propylene glycol, glycerine and flavourings.

E-cigarettes have been regulated by the government since May 2016. From April 2017 it's illegal to sell e-cigarettes to, or buy them for, under 18s.

If you use e-cigarettes as a complete replacement for smoking, you'll almost certainly benefit your health. The health benefit comes from stopping smoking, not using an e-cigarette. It will be some time until studies will show the long-term impact and any unforeseen risks of using e-cigarettes. More is known about the safety and effectiveness of other stop smoking medications.

My dad has been fighting prostate cancer for 5 years , lots of different treatments, chemo worked temporarily at one point, but the dreaded C is going to get him soon

PET scan early this month confirmed the cancer has metastasized, and palliative care required. He was deteriorating daily at home after the scan to the point he needed to go to hospital about 10 days ago. He has been there ever since. We visit him twice daily, where he mainly sleeps. Rarely engages in conversation cause he just cant.

Dreadful and heartbreaking decline to witness unfold. First it was being fatigued all the time, to losing appetite to being immobile.

He beat Stage 4 liver/bowel cancer in 2012-2013, and was cancer free for 5 years till prostate cancer reared its ugly head

Questions your own mortality and those of others you care and love. We are here a short time, make the most of it the best way you can, before its too late.

Sorry to hear mate.

My dad got diagnosed with prostate cancer in GF week last year. He got it removed instead of chemo just before Xmas and so far has been given all clear.

Was certainly a shock to the system.

But your dad must be a fighter if he beat liver and bowel cancer. That's as tough to fight back from those 2 shocking diseases.

I’m so sorry to hear that mate, that’s terrible news. I hope you get the opportunity to spend as much precious time with him as possible. Take care of your own mental health at this time and there are plenty here to reach out to if you need.

Man I lost my little mate of 15 years yesterday and for a dog it's bloody emotional lots of tears.
I am not prepared to lose a family member.
Really sorry to hear that mate. They really do become a family member over all that time. My old mate is close to that age and we can even bring ourselves to think about when that time comes. Hopefully all of the memories you have with him/her can get you through this period. Take care mate

Thanks Mate the emotions are next level. I think it's because the poor guy didn't know what was happening and if I had knew it was going to happen I would have spent the last week just hugging him 24/7.
