Crisis talks on Dragons feeder team

THE Dragons will this week hold crisis talks with local Illawarra club Shellharbour in a desperate move to organise a NSW Cup team for 2011.
St George Illawarra are hoping to resume their association with the local Carlton League club, but their talks have stalled.
Shellharbour will play only in the local Illawarra Carlton League in 2011 unless the Dragons can dramatically upgrade the financial support they gave the club this year.
Dragons chief executive Peter Doust will meet with Shellharbour in the coming days to negotiate a deal after extensive talks before Christmas proved fruitless.
The breakdown of talks means Wayne Bennett's fringe players will have to drop down to play for various clubs in the Carlton League if they are not selected in the top 17.
Shellharbour, who will play as the Southern Marlins, were named last week in a new NSW Cup fixture for 2011, featuring the return of Manly in a 12-team competition.

However, Shellharbour coach Terry Gilogley said his club were favouring walking away from the NRL feeder competition a few weeks ago.
"It'd be very disappointing if there wasn't a team," he said. "I don't understand how a team, who could be world champions if they win the World Club Challenge, can not have a second team. It's in the realms of ridiculousness."

I have always supported the St George Dragons. I have continued this support in the Joint Venture known as the St George Illawarra Dragons.

I believe in the proud history that went before and follow the team and club into the future.

St George are part of the St George Illawarra Dragons Joint Venture.

I claim 16 overall...

...and wait for it, this is in line with the Dragons club.

St George Illawarra Dragons may have won one NRL grand final (NRL, est 1998), but the TOTAL premierships are 16 by virtue of the St George Dragons previously winning 15.

The Dragons in 2010 have recorded 16 premierships as TOTAL.

Perhaps you should close you eyes at this point, or maybe refer to the Dragons as some irrelevant RSL - put it down, denigrate RSLs, call it propaganda. You seem to take comfort in that.

The journal, entitled, '1921-2010 Our Proud History' has been published by the Joint Venture.

The '1921-2010 Our Proud History' also include all past record holders including St George and Illawarra Club Life members. Therefore, the clubs are not dead, St George are not dead, despite your attempts to say otherwise.

I am quite happy with the JV winning a first NRL grand final but I claim 16 premierships overall thanks to St George. And the JV agrees with that view.

Baroness, even the voices in your head will tell you that there is a past, present and future. If there was no St George after 1998, then the NRL records begin in 1998. But that's not the way it is.

I know this is wasted in on softy and baroness, but allow me to attempt a rational discussion. Hopefully you'll learn something.

The Joint Venture of St George Illawarra won it's first NRL grand final in 2010. *Despite want you think, the 'official' book keeping is not a revelation. Even with the NRL regularly making errors, and being full of contradiction, and until such time that change occurs, we still have to use the NRL as a yard stick for the national first grade competition.

But regardless of all that, the 2010 premiership is still the 16th overall for St George and the Red V. And we celebrated it as such.
