In fact after saying that I must now listen to "At first light" off "Those Once Loyal".

Thanks for the Bolt Thrower suggestion. I just had a listen to this one on YouTube, I really liked it but I just cant handle those vocals.

Hevy, I hit up all your suggestions too but nothing grabbed me.

I need something like this - http://youtube.com/watch?v=LTR-tePa0Bg
That tears my head off.

Anybody got any Pantera-esque recommendations?

I just had a listen to Entombed, Damageplan, Killswitch Engage and Down. Don't dig any of 'em.

I need -

1. Hard hitting, choppy, brutally precise riffs.
2. No cookie monster vocals.
3. Audible bass.
4. Some semblance of melody.

PS I'm already aware of (and love) Slayer & Machine Head.

Check out Face Down from Sweden.

I don't really put spineshank in the nu metal category.. Each to their own though i suppose.. You wouldn't like non point then either..

great band first 2 albums were great didnt like what they did after that

i would ssuggest checking out hes new band its very good its got more of a metal sound to it SILENT CIVILIAN

b
it of info from it from 2006

SILENT CIVILIAN, the new band featuring former SPINESHANK vocalist Jonny Santos, have posted the tracks "Rebirth of the Temple", "The Song Remains Un-Named", "Divided", and "Falling Down", from their forthcoming debut album, "Rebirth of the Temple", at their MysSpace.com page. Check out the songs at this location.

"Rebirth of the Temple" is scheduled for release on March 21 via Mediaskare. The CD was recorded at Undercity Recordings with former MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader producing and mixing. The title track will serve as the first single from the album, with an accompanying video being shot the weekend of January 15 in the Los Angeles area with director Scott Culver (YELLOWCARD, HIT THE LIGHTS, MIKOTO). The concept for the video is an ode to the glory days of old-school thrash metal.

i grew up with the late 80's early 90's metal (T'allica, Exodus, Slayer, Testament, Pantera,) but as soon as the Nu-metal fad (Korn, Limp Bizkit, you know the ones) hit I didn't buy a metal cd (or any cd for that fact) for about 4 years until i went on a trip with my work, met a lot of yanks who put me onto these bands. These are the bands that have turned me back into metal and there is a bit of variety here. My missus is a yank so I definetley have a slightly more american flavour to my selection because of the fact I have to go over there once a year and get advice from the locals.

Killswitch Engage- End of Heartache, Alive or just Breathing (metalcore, but it is good)

As I Lay Dying- An Ocean Between Us (I havent heard an album this good in a long time)

Chimaira- The Impossibility Of Reason (check out "Pictures in the Gold Room", "Down Again" "The Dehumanizing Process")

Trivium- Ascendancy (the newest one is $hiiiiiite, avoid the Crusade)

Bullet For My Valentine- The Poison, Scream Aim Fire (Welsh lads, sounds old school)

Lamb Of God- Ashes of the Wake, Sacrament.

All That Remains- The Fall of Ideals (metalcore but like KsE, very good, check out the song "This Calling" or "Six")

Nile- Ithyphallic (middle eastern style death metal, sounds weird in theory but they are excellent)

Arch Enemy- Doomsday Machine (chic singer, great guitars)

Still Remains- The Serpent (they look like emos so you would want to punch them, but this album, whilst slightly softer, has some excellent songs, check out "wax walls of an empty room" "Stay Captive". As I said, they aren't exactly metal, but quite catchy. Not for everyone.

Anyways I hope this helps, there's a little bit of variety there, hope you find something you like

Beaves.

Still Remains, wow, I thought I was the only one who knew about them.....they're doing well for themselves after leaving the metalcore scene and doing they heavy rock thing.....catchy stuff, except for Avalanche.

If I was going to recommend anything it would be the upcoming albums from the bands in my signature........Once Dead and Believer.....two thrash bands who are going to unleash material that will blow people away.......Believer has held cult status over the last 10-12 years and this album, while coming from nowhere, is going to reinstate them as thrash innovators........Once Dead, a new band, features members from a few cult thrash outfits, namely VENGEANCE RISING....the insane amount of delays that occurred with the recording of this album is ridiculous (2 years and counting) but the album is almost done and the band is ready to rip faces off.

Another OK band, though apparently they are metalcore and they have since disbanded, is Scars Of Tomorrow.

Dillinger escape plan.

They remind me of a really extreme faith no more. They use lots of different styles in their music. Good stuff.

The Irony Is A Dead Scene EP with Mike Patton on vocals is great.
