All the red necks come out of the wood work. They are out in bulk in the NRL forum.

So people who don't agree with his inclusion in the NRL are rednecks?
Actually, this is something a true redneck bumpkin might actually do...

He did a horrible, horrible thing....people have every right to be outraged with this decision.
It's just not right, I believe in second chances as much as the next person, but not for a privileged career in RL.
Have you actually thought about how the victim and her family must feel, and how they'll feel seeing him all over the news?
What about her cousin who has to play with him?

On a very crude level, the NRL has enough sh*t to deal with these days now we're going to have this in the media?
The AFL must be gobsmacked.

I might be wrong - and it wouldn't be the first time - but I think Skins is referring to the vigilante, kill the f**ker brigade, rather than those who are merely outraged and don't agree with the 2nd chance.

Which player is this?

A copy and paste of my post from the thread in the NRL section:

Understandable curiosity but please tread carefully. As far as I can tell she has never been named. Automatic name suppression I believe.

Given what she has been through we need to make sure we respect her and her family's privacy. Naming names openly has the potential to erode that.
I'll add that perhaps the question is best dealt with via DM to whoever is in the know?

I can understand your reaction. It was a reprehensible action.
But the guy has been convicted and served his sentence.
If he wasn't going to be allowed to play again the NRL should have banned him for life - they didn't.
Why should a club (and in fact can a club) impose a ban when the national body registers the player.

exactly, the Warriors/NRL have no jurisdiction, whatsoever, over this.. he was 16.

If a person cant get over an indescretion in his childhood/youth, then maybe society should just snuff him out.

I'd love to know the age of the people for and against Metcalf and if they have kids.

28 - have a daughter (8) and totally support the Warriors for signing him, and Shaun for coming so far after being such a scum bag teenager.

That would be find, if he was carrying the child himself, and pounded himself in the guts to get rid of it...

Not to me. Regardless of who's carrying the child, it's still a child, and still equally wrong to kill it. Just my opinion, clearly an unpopular one, but clearly founded in logic of a sort.

Seriously you're a clown.. it's got to be one of the most vicious and stupid crimes I've heard of. Cutting someone up and putting them in a wheelie-bin is is as much an error of judgement due to pressure as this is.

Except- cutting someone up and putting them in a wheelie-bin isn't legal and widely practiced as long as you're a woman and it's your child. Pretty fundamental distinction.

26, no kids, and would be forever haunted if I lost an unborn to the deliberate act of ANY person

Supportive of Metcalf's return, but somewhat biased because I hear he's a good bloke from those who know

For what it's worth...(and that probably isn't much)...

I'm 28, and have a young daughter who is 10 and a half months old. My world would fall apart if anyone harmed her, let along killed her (or attempted to do so).

I'm supportive of the Metcalf signing. He is, from what I understand, a skilled player in a position that we are having difficulties with.

I have it on good authority that he is deeply regretful for his actions, and he is a rehabilitated man. He's done his time, and like anyone else who comes out of the justice system, he has the right to seek employment.

I believe in second chances. Considering his contrition, I applaud the club being willing to offer him that second chance and to show that he has turned his life around.

I don't know what exactly people who are against the signing think he should do with his life now. Is he not supposed to leave his house or something?

38 - with a 10 y.o. daughter. Support the club's stance, Shaun, and anyone genuinely attempting to sort their sh*t out like he is. Just as I support punishment if they don't, as well as in the first instance.

they'd prefer him to be out reoffending to make ends meet.

Oh yeah, that's right! May 21st for us. I think you beat us by about a week?

How are you finding it? Wayne Scurrah told me that fatherhood is the best club in the world, and I reckon he was spot on! :thumn

You are absolutely right Lossy. That is exactly what I meant. I started to answer her (Shorty), but then I thought that I had written enough words in various forums on this topic, and canned it.

There are a few who would bring back the death penalty - for something done by a 15 year kid...

62, two kids, 36 & 34.
League has changed a lot of lives, I think it may well change this one.
He has done his time and it's not as if he is being let off. His life will be scrutinised every day and any mistake will be severely punished. Plus he will have to put up with the heckling of intolerent people.
A brave stand by the Warriors and one I applaud.
Good luck Shaun - make the most of your chance.
