Seage - Let go because of injury. Disappeared
Quinn - sh*t
Gidley - Wanted to go to England. Old and sh*t.
Tighe - Can't crack a start at Penrith
Carmont - Playing well in England. Who isn't?
Chris Bailey - sh*t
Luke Walsh - Real loss
Perry - Real loss, but fat and lazy at Newcastle
Buderus - Wanted to go to England. He wasn't 'released' in some collosal f**k up.
Snowden - Finally showing something. Still somewhat sh*t.
Newton - sh*t
Reynoldson - f**king sh*t
Riley Brown - f**king sh*t

Lowrie - Average
Tanner - Terrible
Woolnough - Can't crack a start. sh*t
Abraham - sh*t

I say it would give our current side a decent game.

Yeah.... no.

Pretty close to my thoughts. It sh*ts me watching Perry play well for Manly. Big sook did nothing, and I mean nothing , for almost six seasons after the 2001 GF win.

I can't believe more fans didn't feel a bit sorry for the situation Smith put him in. That was a disgrace.

Karma, you are kidding yourself, fair enough you hate Smith, we get it, but using Reyno to kick Smith is just dumb.

Reyno was a overpaid hack who thought nothing of milking the system to line his pockets but didn't like it when the system bit him.

Considering the coin he was on, he is the worst signing in the clubs history from a cost vs benefit point of view.

Gidley and Buderus were hardly "let go by Smith".

And Karma...I don't think the Gold Coast are missing Hilder, but Cronulla could sure use him right now :)

You could argue Smith let Bedsy go because he had the ears of the players, which Smithy is seemingly threatened by. Buderus is a natural born leader.

Spot On.

So, what's the situation with Stone. Who is in control of the team. Who is the leader. Is it the players, a particular player or the new coach. What will the scenario be in 12 months? Will Stone command respect from this group and will they respond positively? Will they have a sook and mirror the current situation? Is it Stone's way or the highway? Will Stone put up with under performing players? Can he get this lot to play at a level needed to make the top four? Does he have the cattle?

Thats a interesting point, will the players respond to the guy when the going gets tough.

erm, my mail is a bit different....

Based on Buderus' form in 2009 in the weaker English competition, I say letting him go would have been the smart thing to do.

I don't want to bag Buderus but he hasn't been a huge loss. Yes he is tough, a great leader and all those qualities. Never doubt that. What I will say though is that niether Buderus or De Gois are the type of hooker I would want as a coach in the NRL. Neither offers a kicking game from dummy half which is what we desperately need at Newcastle. Buderus had a good running game but De Gois is lacking in this area. It needs to improve dramitically. I can't question either players defensive capabilities though. I know it's stating the obvious but Cameron Smith's work in attack from dummy half is incredible. The guy is a freak with the ball in hand out of dummy half. Farrah is similar. These two offer so much in attack, it takes pressure of the halves and helps organise the pack. We need a dummy half with these skills. Mick Ennis is another who has improved out of sight with the ball in hand at dummy half. This is something Stone must address if we are going to be competitive with the big boys.

I think there is a risk of alienating the imports with all of this local bullsh*t. It needs to stop being used as an excuse as to why we let a good coach go mid season. I dont want the likes of Fa'aoso or Houston made to feel they are less worthy of wearing the jumper because that is just nonsense. Take the first Newcastle side to hit the ground in 1988, and for many years on. Players like O'Davis, Butterfield and Ben Kennedy were or are all Novocastrians, the fact they werent born in Newcastle means very little. When you come to the town, and you put on the jersey with pride and you play in that jersey with pride you are a Novocastrian for life.

Imagine how Smith will feel if we pull off a miracle and win a title.
It will add to his legend - the guy who loses the GF by more ways than you can count.

Dear Hanscholo

You might like to reassess your definition of a Novocastrian - To be a Novocastrian actually means to be born in Newcastle!! Have a little pride in our heritage.

Disagree.

I have been here over half my life and I consider myself novacastrian.

I was born in Dungog and left when I was two. I know when I go back to visit I am no local.

In my opinion, being born in a place does not make you a Novacastrian.

I have several mates born here who moved to Brisbane when they were four. They are as Queensland as bad hair cuts and fake tans. Not one of them would claim to be Novacastrian.

Yep, there's a lot of people of varying backgrounds in any community who call that place home - many of them make great contributions to that community as well!

My Mum was born in a country where english wasn't the main language...moved here when she was very little...spent most of her primary school days doing ESL (English as Second Language) classes...and ended up being an English teacher! But thats Australia for you.

I only lived in Newcastle for 3 years (in fact I've now lived up here for longer) but I do know the place a fair bit and have a bit of a connection! Don't call myself a Novocastrian by any means though of course.

I was born in Newcastle, in fact "smarter at the mater". I spent 13 of my 43 years living away from Newcastle and it would not matter where I was in the world, or Australia I would and have always considered Newcastle my home.

I love all things Newcastle and Hunter Valley, love the suburban rivalry, the town rivalry but more importantly love the commonality of being a Novocastrian.

I believe that no matter who you are, where you live if you have spent some time in the Hunter and you still consider it home and would defend it when criticised then you are truly a Novacastrian.

Like Serc, my mother came from a NESP back ground and for people you can change your location but you never change your ethnicity.....I see being a Novacastrian as being the same. The only prerequisite for me is a love of NEWCASTLE.
