Benji calling for Brooks. What a joke.
He has been calling on everyone else but should be calling on himself. He is the one who is missing.

I wish Miller all the best,he was dicked around alot but at the same time players have to take their opportunities when given a chance to shine, something he failed to do.

Don't get me wrong Miller is arrogant, cocky and headstrong.

But isn't that exactly what we need to put Benji & Farah back into their boxes concentrating on their own football?

If you were a football player of any note would you want to play football in a team with Benji Marshall? I can say personally the answer would be no. Imagine being a guy like Woodsy who earned a penalty from the kick off or slog the ball up field to watch that grinning chimpmunk grubber on the third tackle straight to th e opposition
I remember Farah coming out of Flegg being described as just that....he was up himself big time, attitude and ego everywhere

Halfbacks are usually brash, out there, cheeky, something different.. 'look at me'....the quieter type kids in the junior teams that flow on up to the seniors dont play in the halves usually

Seems strange that the one place they decided not to harness that confidence is on the field. Hard to show your wares when you play second fiddle to Marshall and Farah.

I will say it'll be interesting to see whether Brooks tows the line when he is promoted.

He was great again last night for the NSW Cup side

This is interesting. I don't get to see the games but wasn't it stated that Miller wasn't performing in the lower grades.

If he is he definitely deserves a call-up. These are the sorts of things I think the coaching staff have to get right. Chances come based on performance.

He was quiet against the Bulldogs in his first game of NSW Cup. I didn't see the Aukland game.

Against the Bears he was very good. Brooks got a lot of the wraps but Miller guided the team all around the park and had a better kicking game. Last night was a step up again really controlling the team for the 80, putting in with his defence etc.

I think he has had a chance to familiarise himself with the team now and has regained some of the confidence against shattered by his stint in NRL.

I re-watched that Manly game from Bluetongue again. He was calling for the ball all first half but was ignored by Farah for the most part.

What I have concluded is that while ever we have benji in the side we need to play traditional halves spread, not one either side of the ruck and Benji has to be that second receiver, never the first. It ruins our forwards play and stifles any half

I have a strange feeling that we are never going to have a solid halfback. Its like the Defence against the Dark Arts teaching position at Hogwarts, for some reason or another they never last a year.

Brooks shows alot of promise but I just can't help but think he is being over hyped and when he starts playing at halfback everyone will be disappointing and eventually he will get axed for some other "new and exciting prospect"

So gronkathon, do we need Siro at half or would that be a waste?

This is a wrap of last nights game, with my bold and underlining just to highlight some players.

Wests Tigers recorded a hard fought 38-24 victory over Illawarra Cutters at Leichhardt Oval tonight in the NSW Cup.

The match was the second game of a double header of a catch up round after the recent City-Country rep round weekend was washed out.

It was Wests Tigers’ second game in four days following their win over North Sydney last Sunday. Wests Tigers will back up again this Sunday for their third match in a week when they take on Newcastle away.

In a game Wests Tigers were always in control of, they certainly made life hard for themselves early in the second half before pulling away late, giving Coach Paul Fletcher a few extra grey hairs.

Wests Tigers got off to a dream start from the kick-off when the Cutters allowed the ball to be touched and go over the sideline for a scrum feed to the home side.

A few tackles into the first set, the ball was spread left through half-back Jacob Miller and full-back Sean Meaney for centre Josh Davis to score in the corner. Miller failed to convert from the sideline for a 4-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Wests Tigers were in for their second try when Miller threw a long cut out pass for winger Taqele Naiyaravoro to use his size and strength to crash over in the left corner. Miller converted for a 10-0 lead.

Illawarra opened their account when winger Jack Twist scored in the corner. The try was not converted by half-back Josh Drinkwater to leave the Cutters trailing 10-4 after 11 minutes.

Wests Tigers defence was strong early in the first half, holding up two Illawarra players over the tryline after a sustained period of attack inside their quarter.

The good work paid off when young forward Inno Inosesio crossed for a try near the posts in the 35th minute. Miller converted for a 16-4 lead.

Naiyaravoro grabbed his second try in the 38th minute on the back of an Illawarra mistake. Miller converted the try to give Wests Tigers a 22-4 lead at half-time.

2nd Half

Illawarra got back to 22-8 when Twist scored his second try after a bomb was allowed to bounce. The try was converted to leave the Cutters trailing 22-10 after 52 minutes.

The Cutters were in again a few minutes later when a grubber kick in-goal was spilt by Wests Tigers for centre Junior Vaivai to score out wide. The conversion attempt fell short of the posts to leave Illawarra trailing 22-14 after 57 minutes.

A superb 70 metre solo try by talented outside back Jy Hitchcox saw him beat three defenders to slide in under the posts. Miller converted to give Wests Tigers a 28-14 lead after 60 minutes.

Illawarra hit back two minutes later when a crossfield kick by Drinkwater saw centre Kose Lelei dive over in the corner. Drinkwater failed to convert the try to leave the Cutters trailing 28-18 after 63 minutes.

Naiyaravoro scored his third try of the game when the ball was spread left through Miller and Asipeli Fine for the giant winger to fall over the line in the 69th minute to give Wests Tigers a 32-18 lead. Miller failed to convert the try.

Wests Tigers lock Joel Luani was sent to the sin bin in the 74th minute following a fight. The Cutters capitalised on the extra man when full-back Tyron Cranston crossed over a minute later. Drinkwater converted the try for a 32-24 scoreline.

A big fend from prop Ava Seumanufagai saw dive over under the posts in the 78th minute. Miller converted for the 38-24 scoreline.

Wests Tigers 38 (T Naiyaravaro 3, A Seumanufagai, J Davis, I Inosesio, J Hitchcox tries; J Miller 5 goals) def. Illawarra Cutters 24 (J Twist 3, K Leilei, A Quinlan tries; J Drinkwater 2 goals) at Leichhardt Oval.

Hitchcox is a great utility back. He regularly forced Widdop out of the halves, into fullback, in the Storm NSW Cup side of 2010.

Chisholm was better than Hitchcox back then too.

Chisholm reminded me very much of Greg Alexander.

I think that this is the concern. Players get hyped up and we expect something special but not every player has that ability to step up straight away.

I think the best approach is to give them a shot and if they perform leave them there. If they don't drop them back to the lower grades and if they kill it there let them come up again. Miller to me is one of those players that needs to prove himself in the lower grades whereas Woods for instance was straight away ready to play firsts and stay there.

Who knows how Brooks will go. If he comes in and doesn't perform does he get dropped and then shipped to Hull ?

I share your concern but I think Brooks is a bit different. Anyone who has seen him play has very high opinions, much more so than any other player including Miller.

Ask Andrew Johns what he thinks of Brooks.

Look i hope all the hype is right about Brooks, unfotunately a lot has also been said about Sirro,Miller,Tedesco which until now each of them have failed to live up to.

Tedesco is going just fine.

Considering the plethora of excuses about the form of Moltzen returning from knee injury the Moltzen meat beaters trotted out for 18 months after he returned Tedesco has been wonderful

I agree, while in a battling side and still learning his trade, he can only improve, plus showing a willingness to compete sets him miles apart of Moltzen as a fullback.

To me Tedesco has to stay and he looks the part but I think he has been slowly building.

I also get what benched tiger is stating in that the hype around Tedesco made you expect more from him. I think Sirro jnr is looking like Tedesco was initially and he deserves a little more time.

There was good reason for the Tedesco hype. He was fantastic in the trials last season and was going well until he did his knee.

Of all our younger players, I think Sironen is the most overhyped.

The Sironen hype does my head in hard because I just don't see it !!!
