Minichiello retires

At his peak he was the human pinball, no one could tackle him and he was fast as hell. I hated Minichiello only because he was such a great player.

Post injury he has become a fine ambassador for the game, professional and respected.

He probably could have had one more year on the wing, but I guess the Roosters have some juniors coming through.

Would've made 350 games if he wasn't injured all those years, then again he may have called it quits a few years previously.

Disappointing to see the retirement of a great NRL player and person be mocked by trolls.

What a career from one of the best fb's of the modern era. He'll be a Roosters legend forever.

Ummm, sorry no - at his best he's in the top 4, only question is the order... nobody beyond Stewart there is in the same class as Minichello at his best... and Minichello >Stewart

I tend to agree with you. He is in front of Snake, but behind Slater, Hayne and GI. Which in itself is no great knock because those three guys are simply outstanding. Might not have had the ball playing ability of those three (IMO), but loved watching Mini run the ball in his prime. Just went so hard and hit the line at top speed. Imaging GI running it back like Mini?

I'm actually surprised how little trolling is in this thread..

Kudos LU on showing the great man the reverence he has earned..

Mini at his peak was the best fullback I have ever seen. As much as it would disgust me to see the Roosters go back to back having Mini go out a winner would make it bearable. Hopefully they make it far enough to get him the club appearance record. Unless they meet the Panthers in the finals, in which case f**k Mini, he can eat a bag of dicks.

He was a very good, but not quite great, fullback IMHO.

I remember well the 2003 GF (I've watched it a millions times). Mini dropped a kick, one of the comms (probably Gould) said "You'll wait a full season before seeing him do that again" then sure enough, 2 minutes later, he did it again. He had a pretty good game, but the pressure did show in the second half.

He's had a fine career, plenty of highs and lows, two premierships and one spoon. Congratulations to him.

(Sorry Horrie for that anecdote- an honest appraisal though).

The rugby league world is hoping to see an NRL Grand Final without Manly, but instead with the Sydney Roosters at full strength versus New Zealand Warriors at full strength.

My hope is to see the Roosters beat the Warriors 25-24, with 8 spectacular tries (by Anthony Minichiello, Sonny Bill Williams, Michael Jennings and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on one side, and Shaun Johnson. Sam Tomkins, Konrad Hurrell and Simon Mannering on the other), and a 79th minute field goal by Mini.

That would be one of the greatest grand finals in human history.

Congratulations Mini on a great career. His best days were probably early to mid 2000s before he had that long term injury. Won the golden boot award one year.

Any of the trivia masters know if he has the longest stretch between premiership wins?

He would be equal with Fittler (1991, 2002).

However, Steve Menzies beats him (1996, 2008).

Not sure if thats a record though.

No, it isn't.

We're hoping you drop dead tomorrow, too.

At his peak Mini was the best FB I've seen with only Slater at his absolute best rivalling him.

I honestly think his injuries have caused many fans to forget just how good he was. He would be retiring not only the best fullback ever but he'd probably be in the top 5 players ever. He would've certainly broken numerous records along the way.
