Rick Rubin did Timberlake's album. All these producers are interchangable. Metallica just needed a new way to get their ideas out and Rick's a fantastic choice. You can balance out Ruben's latest work with Slayer last album too.

Wow that surprises me. When I think of Rubin, I think of some of the finest Slayer CD's.

If the CD doesn't live up to the hype, or come close to it, they're done. Not too many fans will trust them again.

Agree, although I didn't mind the second one. I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the album was announced as Downloadable Content for Guitar Hero World Tour. Hopefully that's an indication of some good guitar work.

I'm not expecting much to be honest. I reckon they'll really try and make it a little heavier, but its just not going to be the same.

You would hope so, but Sonic Youth, AFI, Coldplay and No Doubt have all found their way into Guitar Hero.

What a month for music releases next month is going to be -
Metallica
Iced Earth - The Crucible of man (Something Wicked Pt 2)
Dream Theater Live DVD/CD set (Yes another one :D)

Think I'm looking forward to Iced Earth the most.

Whats modern iced earth like these days Eele?

Havent given them a burl in an age.
Matt Barlow is back for the new CD so it should be OK.

I think Tim Owens was a bit hit and miss as a singer on the last two CD's, but they still seem to come up with something unique. Like the songs dealing with Gettysburgh. I love that series of songs with the orchestra and everything backing up the band, adding something to it.

Overall though I've still enjoyed their last few CD's.

Even Horror Show which I know had mixed reviews.

They just played a new Metallica song on JJJ, i didn't catch the name..

Starts of slow and picks up to a good tempo..

I am not sure what to make of it.. Certianly didn't have an old school metallica sound, if you take away james voice it reminded me somewhat of an old Anthrax sound and feel.

Not bad for a first listen and certainly a much better sound then St Anger.
