Ricky Stuart: Stop eating our own
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...p-eating-our-own/story-fni3fh9n-1226682454815
Okay let's analyse Sooky's analysis:
"Pearce didn't have his best game in Origin, but the first thing he should have woken up to on Thursday morning was messages from 16 others saying thanks for taking the heat off us."
Quite true. Pearce was not the only NSW player to perform erratically on the night. However saying that does not negate how Poos performed that night and I see this tactic in defence of Puss like propaganda speak:
How does one deflect criticism away from Pearce? Draw attention to what other people were doing wrong. Does that nullify what Pus did wrong? Nope he still farked-up. The only way to solve a problem is to face the facts, not excuse them away.
"Blaming Pearce is simply camouflaging other areas where we failed to aim up on Wednesday night."
Similarly: Camouflaging the areas where Piss failed to aim-up on Wednesday Night is simply blaming others. Piss needs to be held accountable just like all the rest. The last thing that NSW needs if they are to solve their problems is to have someone come out and whitewash over all of his crucial errors.
"The worst thing we can do is to look for cheap excuses. Blaming Mitch Pearce is a cheap excuse. It's grossly unfair. "
Wrong. The worst thing you can do is excuse cheaply the way that excuses have flowed forth every series (remember that Phuss has played in 5 deciders now). Excusing cheaply is to refuse to face the truth which confronts you.
"I said after game one that we needed to step up another gear for game two because Queensland were going to be better."
Pest only has one gear in Origin and it's broken.
"Everything is deliberate in Origin, and can be justified - and Pearce is no different."
Quite a telling statement. Pearce's selection is deliberate and to the NSW hierarchy, justified: They want him to assume the mantle of Captain eventually. They want him there. Nothing to do with ability at this level. Nothing to do with long term 'building'. Nothing to do with winning or losing Series. Designed Nepotism. They would not tolerate any other player to f**k-up at this level to the degree or for the same length of time as they have with Pearce. Don't agree? Watch him get selected again next year. Watch NSW lose the series. Then watch Pharce get chosen for the 2015 series. It will happen.
"He is the best halfback in NSW right now, no doubt."
Sooky said he was the best in Australia at one stage there. So what is it Sooky? Oh. I see what you are saying: He is the best halfback in a NSW jersey right now because Reynolds has been dropped from the team. Makes sense.
"There isn't a player who tries harder."
Nor one who equally translates that effort into disaster for his team.
"And while the critics call for Reynolds to replace him, nobody has stopped to think about the pressure that would put on him next year."
Another diversionary tactic to deflect criticism away from Phears. No-one debuts for Origin without feeling pressure. It is an established phenomena that the pressure of Origin can make or break a player at this level. If anything the pressure that will be placed upon the eventual replacement for Pus has been generated by keeping Puss in the team way longer than he should have been and building a mass of defeats.
"With due respect, he is not Thurston yet. Anybody who believes he is going to be the saviour in his first game has no idea about Origin. "
With reference to Pharce(not Reynolds who Sucky was referring to): Poos has had plenty of opportunity to come up to Thurston's level(Sooky said he was better than Thurston). Thus it is fair to assess that he will never rise to Thurston's level. What NSW sees from the current number 7, is what they will continue to get:
Someone whose wheels fall-off at Origin level.
