Carney and Pearce combination was the best in the comp in 2010, could be a goer. I expect Soward will be back though.

They were pretty damn ineffective in the grand final ;-)

To be honest, Carney shouldn't even be in contention at this point after his performance last year. If that changes after 7-8 rounds, so be it, but he was one of the more ordinary 5/8's in the comp last year.

He was out of the game for 18months and kicked ass in 2010, he'll be back to business this yr and should get it easily (barring injuries), its the second yr at the sharks we will have to worry about ;)

People are criticising Campese for only playing a seasons worth of good football in his career, but what about Carney? He's only played 1 good season. He showed lots of promise at the Raiders but didnt win us a whole lot of games.

Many users of this forum talked a gang of sh*t about Carney's ability when he was a Raider....he moves to Sydney and they all jump on his nuts.

Ultimate hubris coming up.

Here it is:

Last year,Ricky Stuart dropped jaws when he mused that Mitchell Pearce should be NSW's Origin captain at the age of 20. This next statement is less outlandish but still sure to c**k a few eyebrows, not least those in Queensland and supporters of Johnathan Thurston.
"I think Mitchell is the best halfback in the world," the coach told The Daily Telegraph.
"He's got a big job on his hands, but he showed in game two that his time has arrived. He ran our strategy so well that night. He had a lot of responsibility on his young shoulders, and carried it off. That's why I said last year that this kid is captaincy material."
Given Pearce's virtuoso performance in Origin II, Stuart's remarks can't be dismissed as hyperbole. Not this time.
There was the pinpoint kick above Queensland heads and hands for Luke Lewis to score the Blues' opening try.
"That level of skill is elite," Stuart said. "It wasn't just the kick: the level of height on that is timing, precision and excellence. It was elite."
There were the two up-ending tackles on Sam Thaiday. "Thaiday cut him up a bit in that first game," Stuart said. "And the way he handled him in the second game shows he is maturing."
Then there was the perfect long pass that hit Will Hopoate on the chest for the try that pushed the Blues out to a lead that was never surrendered.
"Only football people can see how difficult that pass was," Stuart said. "The way he planted his body and passed the football is elite."
Since the retirement of the great Andrew Johns, the NSW team has been a U2 song when it comes to unearthing the next halfback. They have climbed the highest mountain, they have run through the fields but they still haven't found what they're looking for.At long last, they have seemingly found their No.7.
"I definitely do want the job long-term," Pearce said. "This series for now helps me. To win the series would make you think you are safe for another year. I'm confident I know what I have to do to be the halfback of this side.
"But nothing lasts forever. When people say I should be the NSW halfback for the next 10 years, it's too much. I could be playing in France in 10 years. I'd like to be the halfback for as long as I can."
Who knows if Stuart will be coaching the NSW side next year, given how strong the word is about him replacing Kevin Moore at the Bulldogs next season. But the coach knows this: Pearce should remain as the Blues halfback for years to come.
"It's about time we showed some stability in that area," Stuart said. "We've been putting so much pressure on the kid (Pearce), because the blokes in the middle haven't worked for them. NSW have been bashed in the middle for the last five years.
"That's why our halves have struggled. It knocks your confidence around, and it doesn't help when you read every second day that you can't play or you're no good."Nobody could be thinking that right now, as Pearce and five-eighth Jamie Soward attempt to lead the Blues to victory against Queensland at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.
Down the stretch of game two, with the Blues holding on to their lead, Pearce assumed control. They had prepared for that possibility, it's called scenario training, and Stuart had stood behind Pearce and barked instructions.
"He rides me pretty hard," Pearce said.
Riding him to be the best halfback in the game.

Cool Story Bro....

Point is what Stuart said can be taken both way. You can look at it being completely idiotic and a stupid ploy by him yet you can see it as a potential risk-taking action to give Pearce a confidence boost and get the NSW fans behind him and give him support.

Either way, It did not work and I think it was a silly ploy. To be truthful yes Pearce is a good player don't get me wrong but Thurston is a whole league of his own. While NSW will never have another Johns like player again for a while we can still build and develop a strong team without a Pearce/Thurston.

Thurston will go down as one of the greatest ever, especially if he can get that elusive premiership. Pearce will be lucky to play for Australia once.

WESTS Tigers coach Tim Sheens has challenged Tim Moltzen to take advantage of NSW's lack of halfback options and play himself into Ricky Stuart's squad for the 2012 State of Origin series.

The 23-year-old, who back-tracked on a decision to move to St George Illawarra late last year and stayed with the Tigers, will start the new campaign in the No.7 shirt following Robert Lui's move to North Queensland.

Sheens admitted he was hugely disappointed to see Lui depart, having spent so much time helping him develop into one of the best young playmakers in the game.

But after Lui was charged with assaulting his girlfriend following the club's 2011 season mad Monday celebrations, and with the club under pressure from sponsors to release him, Sheens said there was little option but to move him on.

However, the veteran coach believes the versatile Moltzen, who has played mostly at fullback, can flourish in the halves alongside skipper Benji Marshall.

And he believes he should put current NSW halfback Mitchell Pearce under pressure for his place.

"With Moltzen and Marshall, we'll have the fastest halves combination in the game,'' Sheens said.
Buy Moltzen or Marshall in your SuperCoach team

"No other team is going to have more speed over 80 metres than that pair.

"If I'm Timmy, I'd be looking at Ricky's squad.

"He was included in his emerging Origin squad and to be able to play at seven there is a lot less opposition in that position than at fullback.''

Sheens also revealed winger Lote Tuqiri could miss the first month of the season as he recovers from thumb surgery.

The former dual international will definitely sit out the first match of the season against Cronulla and possibly more as he makes slow progress in his recovery.

"He's had his thumb pinned and it is taking a bit of time,'' Sheens said.

"He's missed a fair bit of training and could be out for a few weeks as he gets back up to speed with the others.''

Tigers' new big-money signing Adam Blair said the opportunity to line up alongside New Zealand team-mate Marshall was a factor in his decision to sign from Melbourne.

The versatile forward, who can play in the front or back row agreed to a deal worth around $500,000 a year, and admitted it was a tough decision to leave the Storm.

"It was a big decision to come here,'' Blair said.

"But it'll be good to play outside Benji, that was something that attracted me.

"It was also the chance to work under a great coach and also play in a side that plays an exciting brand of footy.''

Sheens should give up coaching and become a comedian with material like that.

If you're gonna drop Pearce, you're not gonna fill it with Moltzen haha. Unless he has a miracle season

No chance. Might get into the australian side through his mate though.

Moltzen isn't a halves arsehole, could make a good fullback if he cut out some stupid errors in his game.

LOL :L HAHAHAHAHA Moltzen. They are better off putting a Toddler on the field.

LOL @ Moltzen even being in the blues-in-waiting squad. The guy is the biggest myth in the face of rugby league. I'd rather Pearce any day of the week then Loltzen.

Ohhh...Sheen you make me laugh! If Moltzen ever plays for NSW I will seriously go postal on NSWRL headquaters.

I don't give a crap if benji and Timmy are the fastest over 80m.
Footy field is 100m long last time I checked.
I'll give em both 5 start and take Gardner on the nose.

Moltzen is no chance.

Would love to see him get picked just for the reaction of Dragons fans though, would be hilarious.

It's a coach beatup, don't even know how its news. Having said that, he's closer than people think to a Blues uniform. People love him for some reason.
