I reckon the deal fell through because we didn't offer a big enough transfer fee. That was the sticking point before.

The Carney arrangement at the Manly game is making a lot more sense now. I think Doust is resigned to losing out on Chase...again.
What is the Carney arrangement,I said on another thread that he was spotted with his manager at the game on monday night.

Daryl Powell will tell Rangi Chase on Wednesday to help Castleford shoot for the Super League play-offs.

The Castleford Tigers’ new boss has made unravelling Chase’s complex future his first priority.

Chase is strongly tipped to join NRL outfit the St George Illawarra Dragons. But both currently and last season the move has hit problems.

“It’s an on-off saga and it needs clearing up,” agreed former Featherstone boss Powell who has signed a two and a half year contract.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to do that as it would be massively positive for the club.”

“Rangi looks committed when I see him on the field. And the last message I had was that he would be here for the rest of the season.”

“It’s all about getting it from the horse’s mouth and speaking to him about it which I will be doing.”

Tigers chief executive Steve Gill confirmed: ”Rangi is going to be a Castleford player, as far as I am aware, until the end of the season.”

o If we cant sign him mid-season, we lose our advantage (i.e. a huge hole in our current salary cap) and we compete with other NRL Clubs.

o Does Rangi hold any grudge (or conversely desire) to play for the Red V again?

o How eager is Doust to take a player now vs 'the right' player in 2014? From his perspective he will want to salvage as much of 2013 as possible for sponsorship and the rest.

I agree with this.
All the talk is that Rangi will play out THIS SEASON at Castleford.
Nothing being confirmed about Rangi fullfilling his Castleford contract IN FULL !
How long was his contract extention at Castleford for ?
Maybe the transfer fee will be less AFTER the current ESL season ?
Don't forget, apparently he was ready to come after the last ESL season, only for Price to say that we didn't need him ! DOH !
So although there may be no hope of him coming this year to replace Fien in the halves, there may be hope that he will replace Soward for NEXT YEAR ?
I can't help but think about that scene in Dumb and Dumber where Jim Carey says "So there's still a chance !"

How do you know there weren't similar issues last time? The club and/or Price could have just been sick of the hold up, plus Kyle didn't re-injure himself at the time.

I'm pretty sure it was stated that Price said we didn't need him in the final stages of the negotiations last time !
Maybe you're right, and Price was just sick of the hold up !
All i remember was people on this forum giving it to Pricey for saying that (as if that was the reason why he is not here now) !
Anyway, i'm just trying to make sense of this mess just like the rest of us.

Seriously? We have jacked him twice now? I honestly wouldnt be surprised if gives us a big F U and goes elsewhere.

When does the ESL season finish anyway?

That's the "official" story but who knows what really happened? It just seems to me that there's more to this story than what we are being lead to believe.

So despite the recent good signings for next season, we are still without a recognised full time half, which is the pivotal position in the team if we are to be successful. Carney and Widdorp are essentailly five eights who could play half...but not specialists.

I am also to be convinced that Kyle Stanley will make a great impact in NRL. Everyone seems to assume he would have or will be a saviour, but I have yet to see any evidence from what he has done in his brief time in the top grade that he would be any more than a solid first grade player, if he could stay injury free.
