Bullsh*t. Lam and Carrol qualified for Origin under standard elegibility rules, ie they started their football carreers in Queensland, they just happenned to have been born or had ancestry in other countries.

I agree with the point about Lam. However, it is possible that Carroll played his first RL in Christchurch and that Brad Thorn played his first RL in Dunedin. Former Dragons, QLD Maroons and NZ Kiwis prop Craig Smith definitely played his junior Rugby Union in Kataia in Northland, North island, NZ.

IMO if Morley were willing to stand down from test football for 3 years, then he should be able to play for Australia. He has lived here for more than 3 years and qualifies on the residency rule which operates in a whole host of sports, including RL.

However this is all moot and theorising by Geoff Carr. All that is happening is that hes getting residency to live here. He said last week that is passionate GB and that if, by chance, an NRL club blocked him form playing for GB, then he would return to SL to play.

But he doesn't paly for Lebanon anymore i think..Because if he plays for City, therefore can play for NSW therefore can play for Australia..Hence he cat play for Lebanon.

Wrong. Lebanon area a developing country. Hazem has already stated if he was forced to choose and only be eligible for one of the 2 nations' rep calenders, Lebanon would be his choice.

All this shows is that international football is a complete joke.

You should NEVER have players swapping what nation they they for. Never ever!

If the ARL has any integrity at all they would go to the likes of karmichael Hunt and Benji Marshall and tell them they will not be selected for Australian rep sides because they are not Australian.

But no....

If Morley became an Australia the ARL wouldnt hesitate to select him.

lol. i dont think heed get in our side anyway

He's the best 2nd-rower in the world. Of course he'll get in

Keep Origin for what it's meant to be - contest between players who "originated" in either state. Make a rule that it's either birth, or age 12, or first game or something that counts, but make it consistent for selection purposes for all rep teams.

That would rule a few QLDers out, and a couple of NSW players out.

Civo wouldn't be able to play for QLD

Exactly. Origin has elegibility requirements and Morley does not meet them, end of story. If he plays Origin the rule book has been thrown out the window.

He meets them the same way as Civo does for QLD along with several other players from both sides.

The only 3 times the laws have been changed has been to help QLD. Allowing Langer to play despite not being in the NRL, allowing Lam to play even though he didn't make himself available to Australia, and ditto with Craig Smith.

So what happens if a player like Eels winger Matt Petersen becomes good enough to play Origin? He was born in Subiaco, WA, and played his junior RL for the Perth Reds, and is NOT a product of either NSW or QLD RL.

As you can see, these issues aren't just black and white.

Don't England already have the "War Of the Roses" Origin  .

NO...NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

I don't mind a player like K.Hunt, who is a kiwi Through and through but is a product of the QRL play SoO for QLD and Test Football for the Kiwi's, But Morley? WTF? Does that mean we get Stuey Fielden when he finally decides to head over?

I stand corrected on Carroll (and Thorn, although there isn't a hell of a lot of RL in Dunedin so I doubt it was at a high level). It asll stinks though, the Qrl are obviously happy to relax the restrictions to allow Kiwis into the Qld side but they scream blue murder when theose players want to represent NZ later (ie Smith and Carroll)

Morley can do it if he wants. That doesn't mean its the right thing to do or anyone is going to like it but he can still do it. If he says from now on I'm going consider himself an Australian , he has to be classed as living in a state. It does seem ridiculous , and you can hate him all you want but its up to him. Its like Lockyer going to the Roosters , Broncos supporters would hate him , but he could do it.

Not its not. Its nothing like that!!!!!!

There are rule in place to say who is eligable for rep teams. Morley doesnt fit any of the requirement needed to play for NSW!

Yes he does fit the requirments. The first Rugby League he played in Australia after the age of 16 was in NSW, and he'll be available for Australia. They're the only 2 rules there are. He fits them both.

What i have said that it will be a catastrophe for GB if morely plays SOO! There are so many quality backrowers in the NRL so why would geoff carr want a brit to play SOO?

Next thing you will see is Johnny Wilkinson signing for Manly?

Cheers

The International Rugby League have to bite the bullet and set down reasonable rules to prevent the mockery of Adrian Morley playing Origin.

This is the way it should work. It should be the country you were a citizen of at the time of your birth. Adrian Morley's parents were English Citizens so he plays for England. The only time a player should get a choice is if the parents are duel citizens or citizens of two different countries. If it is a non league playing nation that the player is from they are allowed to play for somewhere else but once they pick one team that is where they stay unless the country of birth becomes a playing nation.

But didn't he play league in England after his 16th birthday prior to playing in Australia? Therefore his state of Origin lies in England, not in Australia, therefore he is NOT elegible.
Under your rules every Kiwi playing for a NSW club could become Origin elegible simply by getting an Australian passport (and a hell of a lot of them could do that tomorrow if they wanted to)

There's nothing wrong with the current rules, they just seem to be selectively enforced. Whichever state/country you play your first League for (and I say for, not in for a reason) after turning 16 becomes your state of origin, end of story. If youy also happen to be born in another country (ie, A. Lam, K. Hunt) fine, that should be a separate matter and not affected.

Yes those Kiwis could if they wanted to.

Civo played his 1st League after his 16th b/day in Fiji, so he shouldn't be allowed to play for QLD?

Plenty of other players as well.

The rule is where you 1st played League in QLD/NSW, not the world. If someone who 1st played in WA after their 16th b/day, then whichever state they play in 1st is that state they play for.
