I agree with everyone that Mortimer and Kris Keating are our most likely and most promising halves combination for next year and, hopefully, beyond. Mortimer`s got a bit more class than Keating IMO; but they`ll be good together. However, back to the here and now, and I reckon Jeff Robson had a terrific game yesterday. He gave Mortimer lots of clean ball. I think he`s actually making Mortimer`s job a little easier than it might have been. Certainly easier than if Mortimer had to play outside of someone as erratic as Finch. Robson seems to be really enjoying his football lately. I know he`s not our future - but he is our present, and he`s combining with Mortimer and making Mortimer`s transition that much easier. Well done.
I completly disagree, I think KK was the only player that looked like breaking the line when he was playing halfback. While imo Keating passing game is inferior to Mortimers I think Keating has a better running game, kicking game and a better support player. I also think Keating becomes more adaptive and would be a better halfback then Mortimer because he has better vision and still quiet a good short passing game.
I would pick KK over Mortz atm still
Surely you would play them together.
At the end of next year i wouldn't choose either to be halves to be perfectly honest with you.If we fail purchasing the high profile half we're allegedly chasing for 2011, then obviously we re-considerYep for next year I would have both of them in the halves because ATM our squad for next year is still very lean with guys like Oake and Huraki on way too much money. We have very little depth in t he forwards and halves outside of our 17 next year.
Although if the choice came to Keating or Mortimer, who would you chose? (both are out of contract next year)
Fantastic article in regard to Daniel Mortimer in this weeks RLW. Page 34.
I actually thought about it but the tight arses who couldn't be stuffed can buy it themselves!
Its too bloody long.
Mortimer reminds me very much of a young PJ Marsh.
I said the same thing about him in another thread too (or maybe it was this one).
I've really been impressed with his rapid improvement since making his debut.
We better not make the same mistake we made with PJ though...
this is the problem, PJ never adapted in the halves and was moved around the field early on. I dont know if Mortimer has the vision to be a halfback, he is quick and can score a try but can he lead a team? I think KK has that advantage over Mortimer and they are probably equal in the skills department
