Seriously, what did we say that was so wrong??? :? We didn't write the kid off and we gave him credit on a few things.

Did you want us to say he is the next Andrew Johns or something?? And that he's got a perfect game..... FFS.

You didn't. Caylo however has written him off as ever being a halfback based on five games due to a lack of vision.

No one can doubt after 5 games he has exceded everyone's expectations (except Raudonikis;-))

But the thing that has impressed me the most is a few times when the game was one the line he wasn't afraid to back himself and win the game for us. Him and KK cold be a very good long term partnership for us.

He has played five games......

He has shown as much vision in the halves as any halfback we've had in the past few years. He may not be kicking across field inside our own twenty por throwing three man cut outs but he's doing a bloody good job at this stage.

Keating has played three times the amount of games so he shiould be showing more than Mortimer has to now.

KK has played 3 games this year at halfback (not including Sea Eagles game he played 13min) and 2 games there at the end of last year, and played games at 5-8. To compare KK has played 9 games in the halves compared to Mortimers 5 so it isnt quiet 3 times when you think about playing in the halves.

Mortimer has played in a more stable team with better performances from guys all over the park from Hayne all the way to Lowrie. I simply think that Mortimer lacks some vision, which is expected from a young half... will he become the next Joey or the next Michael Witt... well only time will tell.

I have not saying he isnt a prospect rather not getting too excited just yet and IMO i think KK is ahead of Mortimer in terms of development, and there is a real chance that one of those two will not be at the club next year with both their contracts expiring along with other guys like Hayne, Inu and Mateo.

You are aware that Mortimer has been playing at second as opposed to first receiver as well aren't you?

As for development, the statement still stands. Keating has played three times the amount of games in first grade that Mortimer has and he should be in front in terms of development - Keating has also had exposure through the Premier League sides.

Neither have lead a team consistently to this point in time - no reason to get excited but no reason to write either off.

I like KK and Morts but I would say that Mortimer has been more impressive.

Next year with a full offseason it will be

1. Hayne
6. Keating
7. Mortimer
13. Mateo

with Anthony Mitchell coming off the bench at 14. Now that is something to get excited about.

For you to say mortimer has no vision is just pathetic, his game revolves around vision. He has 7 written all over him in reguards to leading a team around and firing off good balls to blokes like KK/Hayne and even Inu when he pulls his finger out, plus the fact he knows when to take off himself or back up the pigs.I will also mention when mateo is back and he gets to back him up.

On the other hand he was impressive the way he has taken controll of the side the last 2 weeks

Disagree, I see someone who shows moments of brilliance but not consistant involvment. I think KK gets his hands on the ball more and works to a plan, while Mortz plays what in front of him and injects himself spuratically (Ben Roberts like).

I am not saying that Mortz is a bad player or has no future rather being realistic. Tim Smith started with a band and went sour quickly, while someone like Prince always showed somthing but took time to deliver.

Mortimer could go either way, aswell as Keating and no one can argue that. I think these two will have plenty of time over an offseason to develop a solid partnership (that can continue from the jnr days) and If it works they can stay together. We have to consider the idea that it may fail and if we had to pick between KK and Mortz atm I am still leaning towards KK.

PS. I think KK combined with Hayne much better than Mortz, I can remember a few occations KK has put Hayne into a gap but I am yet to see Mortz do the same. IMO KK has much better vision and Hayne is utilized much better for that.

i always enjoy reading the opinions of people who have no idea of what they are on about.

Unless you have something productive to add, don't say anything because when you make comments like that it simply shows that you don't believe in your own argument and have reverted to personal attacks to try and deflect your own personal inadequacies.

If push came to shove re: KK v Mortz , you'd have to go with Mortz on potential.
KK has been great behind a badly outplayed pack, but I don't think can improve as much as Mortimer can. Especially if Mort can build up a little (without sacrificing speed and agility) .
The fact is , long term halves for Eels should be Keating and Mortimer , either way 6 or 7 and either way left or right side of the ruck.

I agree with you. Mortimer just seems to have a bit more poise; a bit more time to do things. But it`s a futile thing to argue about, because we`ll all know the answer in a year or two (barring injury).
