Well.....there goes our media exposure. Good luck getting another eels article in the paper.
I'm sure Morts leaving is just the start of another crisis, that's sure to get us in the papers.

Morts wouldn't have even been on 55k back at the end of '09 when Kingston left. He was still on his NYC salary and was supposed to be for 2010 too but I'm sure it would be have been upgraded when he signed his contract extension early in the that year.

PLAYMAKER Daniel Mortimer has taken a pay cut to re-charge his NRL career with the Roosters.
The 22-year-old has cut his ties to Parramatta two seasons prematurely - but his former club will be helping to fund his fresh start with their Bondi rivals.
The Daily Telegraph understands Parramatta will be paying a small part of Mortimer's new two-year deal with the Roosters after he was told by his former club in July he was free to look for a new home. However, because Mortimer was willing to take a pay cut on his reported $220,000-per-season contract, the Eels have gotten off lightly.
Mortimer said he was happy to slash his wages because of the opportunities he believes will come his way when he joins the Roosters next month.
"It's never been about money for me," Mortimer said yesterday.
"All you want to do is play in the NRL. It's not about money at all. I just want to back myself next year."
The 2009 grand finalist with the Eels said his decision to leave Parramatta was not motivated by any grudge at being overlooked by coach Stephen Kearney in the second half of the season.
But languishing for Wentworthville in the NSW Cup convinced him his best opportunities to return to the NRL lay elsewhere.
"There really is no bad blood at Parramatta," he said.
"I really enjoyed the club and I would have been happy to stay there.
"I just knew from this year my opportunities there wouldn't be good. Last year at Parramatta didn't work out. Now I have an opportunity to start fresh and I'm really looking forward to it."
Roosters coach Brian Smith said he will stick with halves Mitchell Pearce and Braith Anasta next season, but expects Mortimer to put pressure on them to keep their positions.
With the Roosters cutting five-eighth Todd Carney, Mortimer is the next playmaker in line and is expected to see plenty of game time during the representative period on the NRL calendar.
The Eels and Roosters announced the move yesterday afternoon, but the NRL is yet to formerly register the contract.
Mortimer's manager Steve Gillis said there is no chance of Mortimer's signing turning into another Tim Moltzen-like debacle.
"We've agreed to terms and he'll definitely be there," Gillis said.
Mortimer joined the Eels in 2007 and made his NRL debut in yellow and blue in 2009.
Eels chairman Roy Spagnolo yesterday defended his club's decision to release Mortimer with two years running on his contract after re-signing him on a substantial contract at the end of his breakthrough 2009 season.
Mortimer was signed until the end of 2012, but his contract with Parramatta also had another year in his favour.
"At the end of the day it was a decision we had to make," Spagnolo said.
"He probably saw that he wasn't the No. 1 player in that position and saw an opportunity elsewhere. This kind of thing happens in league all the time.
"We certainly wish him all the best."
Mortimer will officially join the Roosters when the squad begins pre-season training next month.
Roosters recruitment manager Peter O'Sullivan said Mortimer would be used in a utility role, to enhance the incumbent partnership of Anasta and halfback Mitchell Pearce.
''Daniel is widely regarded as a quality person on and off the footy field and we are looking forward to watching him develop as part of our team over the coming seasons,'' he said.
Carney, meanwhile, could sign with the Sharks as early as today, with coach Shane Flanagan arranging to meet with the player's manager David Riolo to finalise a two-year deal.
Better us paying a small amount for him to play at the Roosters than paying a huge sum for him to play at Wenty.
that was always the big question, how much of his wages are we still paying ?
sounds like we got out of it lightly
Maybe not?
His wage would be $440k (allegedly) over 2 years if he stayed with us.
The Roosters may have offered something minimal (say 80k) over 2 seasons. The proviso might be that we release him and don't pay a cent in 2013, but are on the hook for 'our share' in 2012 (so 220 - 80ish?) - something like 140k?
I suppose we'll never know, but relief next year might not be the most important thing anyway.
So over 2 years morts makes 300k (which he would be right in calling a pay cut) instead of 440 and we don't suffer the 220k hit against the cap in 2013!
Hate to sound pedantic - but since when were the eels colors yellow & Blue?
I have always had it in my head we are blue & gold?
disrespectful Journalists with absolutely no integrity or professionalism.
They just keep getting it right, this mob.
Well actually they signed Morts until end 2013, so really that have reduced their exposure to the deal that went bad.

Haha yes who could forget Osborne boasting about what a coup it was to re-sign him and how Mortimer would go on to be one of the club greats.
Clueless.
