there was Talk of moving the GF to Brisbane and Melbourne a while back Defantely a good move. Im not sure whats going on up there in Sydney to make them want to do this.. It had something to do with the lack of crowd figures.. or support of fans for there club..

First move it to Brisbane. Where the True Die hard fans of Rugby League live. No one deserve's to have it more then the Queenslanders.

Then the following year. Bring it down to Melbourne the home of rugby leagues Super Power. the whole CITY of melbourne would embrace it and it would sell out. No one knows how to enjoy ANY sporting event better then a Melbournian.

82,500 and there's a lack of fans :?

Sydney's top three clubs in terms of membership have more members than the three Qld clubs put together.

I'm struggling to see where your logic of moving the Grand Final to a stadium with either 26,000 or 30,000 less capacity comes from, sorry.

Comes from the hole in his head where his frontal lobes used to be.

Given that Sydneysiders are twice as likely to attend a RL game than Brisbaneites, and that Melboring's population will wait until their 2 Rugby sides meet before they buy a ticket in 2010........

grand final should always be in sydney
and when O'Farrell becomes premier in 12 months time he should get gallop to sign a 40 year contract to insure the games always in sydney

When teh NSW Govt puts its hand in its pocket and pays what a world class event like the NRL GF is worth then they can guarantee it.

They could use some of the GST royalties they've nicked off WA to pay for it!

ps why is there a RU advert at the bottom of this thread????

It's about money. The Qld govt was trying to buy the rights to host it. So yes, if the NSW "government", for the want of a better term, wanted to keep it they'd have to pay for it. You can't complain about underselling the TV/radio rights to one operator instead of taking the best deal on offer and then do the same thing with hosting rights to the GF by handing it to NSW when there might be a better offer on the table. I doubt it'll ever be moved but Sydney should not have an unquestionable right to host the GF no matter what.

no no no

Capacity alone says tha twe should stay at Homebush - let alone the tradition of GF day

Cmments from ex Broncos and Raiders players - even dislike the fact that semi's are not played at the premier venue

Same argument goes for moving the AFL GF away from the MCG - simple answer will always be no

I have to laugh at the NSW Govt. for not recognising what a great event it has with the NRL G/Final.

Just pay what its worth and it wouldn't be an issue.

Terrible idea. Sydney is the home of rugby league. Maybe if Brisbane ever gets an 80k stadium. Which they won't.

Reality is any shortfall in tickets can be made up from a State Govt paying what a GF is worth. If you want the showcase NRL game played in a mid sized stadium is another matter. Shame Brisbane doesn't have an 80,000 stadium as well as Suncorp.

In Melbourne they could play it at the MCG. Even though its oval the stands are so steep you feel on top of the pitch anyway. Capacity wouldn't be an issue there and I reckon alot of RL fans would travel interstate to see the game. Would be great to see Melbourne city packed out out with 50,000 RL fans descending on it for the weekend.
