Maybe, I could have missed a comment about his hertiage; but given Daley has been around League since, what about 1988 or around there, it just seems strange that it was not common knowledge of his background.

i thought it was common knowledge, or at least has been for the last about 10 years of my life
granted i didnt know previously but maybe Daley isnt the type that needs to spout about his heritage daily to get attention. As he said in the article, he talked when asked about it but never felt the need to bring it up because he was brought up to let his actions speak for himself.

He's a class act. If mundine was half the man or footballer that Daley was and is, he'd have a lot more australians in his corner when he fights. As it stands most the population and i recon a decent slice of aboriginals will now be hoping Geale knocks his f**king block off

Possibly true but his history of racial and offensive comments have damaged him personally within the community and overseas (see numbers who watched his McKart fight in US). So while he makes money from his mouth which may be all he cares about, he has alienated himself from the public and successfully developed deep hatred for himself from what seems to be a large portion of the community in this country and some overseas.

Daley could have shut Mundine up years ago when he was carrying on about his non-selection in SOO and Kangaroo sides because of his aboriginality by saying: "Hey Bro, I am the same as you dude so why do I get selected - maybe, because I'm playing better football." What comeback could Mundine have had.

Its a good thing that Daley didn't fall back on race. He let Mundine run his mouth and look like a moron.

This line gets trotted out all the time. And frankly i cant understand how its arguable.
Daley was by far the more talented player of the two. It was evident pretty much every time they stepped on the field. He was a better ball player, kicker, had better vision, was a much better defender. You could make a case that Mundine was a better ball runner, but then again Daley was a far better runner before he did so much damage to his knee he was pretty much playing on one leg.


Daley was the better player and the most talented. I dont see where the argument could be made that Mundine bested him on those fronts.

I agree that Daley was the more talented player but that's opinion. Other people have differing opinions which is why I said arguable.

I'm not much of a Mundine fan, but he is actually a really good boxer, you can't be a World Champ without having some skill. .

well given there's about 20 boxing organisations, 600 divisions, if you have a manager who sucks enough c**k eventually you'll get a shot at a title and beat another nuffy. mundine has skill but very little ticker. look at the fights he's lost, when the other boxers werent worried about his speed and taunts he's gone into his shell and struggled. he did make green look like a chump though

i remember the first time i heard about daley's heritage was when there was a story about racism in league (cant remember the incident but it wouldnt surprise me if munidne was involved) and daley said "i never copped crap for being a black fella". I dont think he ever really made an issue of it, but you also have to remember that a lot players are probably of mixed race and don't carry on about it like mundine has

i agree, but unfortunately it doesnt always work this way. Mundine had the chance during his boxing career to actually get people on his side but he's gone out of his way to cause division, bag league, claim racism at every opportunity. when he retires he will have some boxing belts in his cabinets, a shitload of money in the bank, adoration from his followers and a lot of hate from everyone else

p.s. I've always been curious what the aboriginal community made of his conversion to islam

Really, as much as I don't like him. He'll achieve more than a large percentage of people. He is/has been a world champion. That is an achievement in itself, regardless of your inability to accept that fact.

There are approximately 150 world champions in the sport of boxing today, Mundine has never been a legitimate world champion. Only in boxing, a sport run by greedy promoters do they have 2 world champions in the same division for the same organisation.
Sure he's done well but if he'd done a few things differently he could've achieved a whole lot more in league (like winning the 99 grand final). In boxing he's had his chance to win legitimate belts but either got beat or turned down the fight.

To achieve what he has in two sports is pretty amazing.

However, he never really took the chance to further himself by fighting in the US once he had achieved a certain level of success locally. The reason for this, money, because unlike almost anyone not named Fenech or Tzyu he has been getting real money for his Pay Per View fights.
