I don't get how people get so wound up about the results.

Do they not feel validated if their favourites aren't on there?

Not at all, but don't you get bored with these predictable lists that come out all the time? It would just be nice if a greatest albums list took into account all albums rather than just a select few.

There are some genres that aren't even considered.

What about something like Miles Davis - Bitches Brew?

What about Alice in Chains rather than Nirvana? If we're going purely on the influence a band had on a certain genre then they've erred by not including Van Halen.

Personally I think Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales should be there for sure.

And it's no surprise that there is no metal on the list. Heaven forbid!

It was publicly voted so of course metal would be quite low on the list.

I thought Appetite For Destruction would have rated quite highly since everyone who hears the album loves it.

I agree on the Nirvana comments, after trying Smells Like Teen Spirit on Singstar the lyrics make f**k all sense. Some Anthem.

How annoying was Judith Lucy, does she have to be sarcastic about everything ? And that guy from the Chaser wasn't much better. Oh, and Renee having a whinge about her favs not making it, you were supposed to be commenting on the merits of DSOTM you dumb cow.

I was suprised that the Beatles White Album didn't win as it usually wins all these type of polls. Overall I don't really have any major problems with the top 10. It's not mine but you can't deny the impact any of these albums has had on the world.

Oils = highest ranked Oz band.

The people have spoken!

Dunno about Meatoaf making it that high same goes for Buckley.
Dark side and Nevermind deserve it...both changed the world.

Judith = glass half empty
Myf = glass half full...with great tits.

I dislike Kram a little less now for some reason.

Who the fug is Renne Geyer to judge anything anyway?
"Say I love you" ...scarred me for life.

They're predictable because the same people love the same classic albums.

There are some genres that aren't even considered.

What about something like Miles Davis - Bitches Brew?

Kind of Blue is one of my favourite albums, not to mention Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, etc, but jazz (and other non pop/rock genres) just isn't popular enough amongst the masses to rate.

What about Alice in Chains rather than Nirvana?

AIC had nowhere near the cultural impact of Nirvana, and as far as I'm concerned, their songs weren't as good either.

If we're going purely on the influence a band had on a certain genre then they've erred by not including Van Halen.

You also have to take into account the qaulity of the subsequent bands. I hate to break it to you but VH haven't aged well. They were of a time, and that's it.

Personally I think Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales should be there for sure.

I don't.

And it's no surprise that there is no metal on the list. Heaven forbid!

Metal is a marginal and largely trivial musical genre...It doesn't appeal to a wide range of people.

Actually I'd respond to all of that by suggesting that it's the "chart" music that is trivial.

Supposed popularity counts for little really, especially when that popularity is manufactured.

Yes VH were of a time, so were Nirvana. Perhaps if EVH had shot himself in the head he would have achieved martyr status too. As it is, AIC were by far a better band than Nirvana. Nirvana were sh*t, let's face it. They just happened to influence a generation of simple teens that enjoyed hearin a distorted guitar and some idiot with blonde hair jumping around in a warehouse.

But when you talk about their influence, my point is that VH had the same influence 15 years earlier. If you insist on referring to Nirvana's cultural impact you can't discount Van Halen's. I'm not referring to VH circa 2006.

As for Sting, well I've barely seen such a collction of fine musicians assembled one one album playing such fine songs that manage to achieve that rare medium of being technical yet accessible. Best drummer in the world, by the way. Widely acknowledged. Not that talent counts for much in music.

That's it, rant over now.

But its such a dreadful song...

I wouldn't call it dreadful (Smells Like Teen Spirit) it had something going for it because its like an anthem for a group of people but did you read my post properly. I said it T.I.C. (tounge in cheek). I wasn't a Nirvana fan either is what I was saying.

Where the ridicule of the list begins is when absolute mindless schmaltz pap like Darren Hayes makes the list and Pet Sounds doesn't.

I take these "lists" with a grain of salt, they always throw up anomalies that when seen in hindsight, look pretty stupid. I remember MMM doing a top 500 Rock songs of all time a few years ago and they had Eminem at #2.

I mentioned Pet Sounds because it was one of the albums of the 1960's and the Beach Boys' music influenced a generation. Even the Beatles, who have 4 albums in the top 20, listed the Beach Boys as one of their prime influences.

Pet Sounds should definitely be there, but it's obscure compared to the Beatles amongst the punters.

Most people only see them as a surf band, etc.

Nirvana blew everyone of your van halens out of the park with 4 chords...
Na na na... chuka chuka... Da, na na na... chuka chuka
Da na na... chuka chuka... Da, na na na... chuka chuka
simple and perfect.

Thankyou Nirvana for saving the 90's .

It was a very very special time .
If you missed it or were too busy hanging onto your spandex dreams... well you really did miss out on "our" Beatlemania.

When that song was played at nightclubs everyone just went beserk...it was an amazing experience to witness.

Glad I lived through it all.

I saw them at Selinas and it was the most intense electrifying night of my life.

It was literally rock n roll history unfolding before my eyes.

..and everyone there probably sensed it.
