Not sure how he could be classed as an official of the club?

That Paddy guy the biographer on four corners the other night must be KMAV they are both sprouting the exact same info and both seem to be disturbingly obsessed with Nathan Tinkler

That's what biographers do, they research interesting individuals and write stuff about them.

Tinkler is crooked as a dogs back leg, but I think the Knights will come out okay- you guys can thank that guy from the club who played hardball with NT and got the 20M bank guarantee out of him for that. A very good move given what has transpired.

Not good. Sports take this very seriously. I've seen people get 2 month suspensions for $10 bets.

If this is true the Knights and Tinkler could have the NRL come down hard on them.

Newcastle Knights owner Nathan Tinkler cleared over bet on his own club

KNIGHTS owner Nathan Tinkler has been cleared of breaking strict NRL betting rules because he reported his punting to then CEO David Gallop.

According to a claim made by Luxbet in the Northern Territory Supreme Court in January, Tinkler plunged $25,000 on Newcastle in a match against New Zealand Warriors at Mount Smart Stadium on August 13, 2011, eight days after he assumed formal ownership of the Knights.

NRL rules strictly prohibit any club official betting on rugby league, with the NRL launching an investigation on Tuesday night.

The ex-billionaire - or the Newcastle club - faced severe punishment, ranging from a heavy fine to a suspended licence, if a breach was proven. But the NRL on Wednesday decided no further action was warranted.
"Inquiries today revealed that Mr Tinkler had reported the bet to then Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, in 2011 explaining that he had been unaware of the rule preventing an owner from betting and an undertaking was secured that he would not bet on games in the future," the NRL said in a statement.

"Inquiries with Newcastle, Mr Tinkler and Mr Gallop today have confirmed these events.

"A check on betting records today suggests that there is no evidence that would indicate any gambling by Mr Tinkler on the Knights since that point."

After leading early, Newcastle eventually lost the game in question 20-12, Tinkler blowing his cash.

Coach Wayne Bennett's future at the club would have been in jeopardy if Tinkler's licence was suspended. Bennett's deal is understood to be with Tinkler, not the Knights.
One rival NRL official was shocked to hear about Tinkler's bet on Newcastle.

"He knows the rules, everyone in the game knows the rules," he said.

"The code of conduct is black and white - no betting on the games. The NRL will have no choice but to come down hard on him."
The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday that Tinkler's failure to pay debts prompted Luxbet to sue him in the Northern Territory Supreme Court in January, chasing $179,200.
Court documents obtained by The Daily Telegraph reveal Tinkler, the embattled businessman, was outlaying up to $200,000 a bet on horse races during a three-year spree.
He found few winners.

In April this year, Bennett said Tinkler was committed to the Knights despite his owner offloading the Patinack Farm horse racing operation.

it's sad how some of the pathetic merkins on here get horny whenever there's the slightest piece of bullshit written about Tinkler or the Knights. For over a year now you mongrels have been saying he will be bankrupt tomorrow and the knights will go down with him. but then when it gets continually proved as the bullshit that it is, back into hiding you go until the next nonsense story comes out.

Did you not see Space Monkey's post?
Most understand that the potential demise of Tinkler doesn't equal the demise of the knights due to some smart safeguards that were put in place,
Don't expect us to admire someone like Tinkler.

Does someone wish to explain how Tinkler's $20 million bank guarantee work for the Knights?

If he goes belly up (pun intended) and is forced into bankrupty; I take it the guarantee ($20 mill) becomes the Knights to cover future operating costs. Yes/No

If you go back about 50 pages Maggie you will quickly learn that there are a hundred different "facts" about the bank guarantee. I think you'll find it has reverted to 10 million now and did so about six months ago. I'm sure all and sundry will explain the finer details of it to you. Everyone seems to know how it all works. Apparently he goes bankrupt, the members buy the club back for a dollar and then get ten million to run the club.
