Everyone hates Wests. They are about as popular as Manly are to non Manly supporters. A lot of people are members by default as West took over their club - Nelson Bay RSL and Club Phoenix for example

Um you're not describing anything new. Penrith basically has that, they're hardly a superpower.

Wests were also pro-Super League wanting to be the owners of the Marriners until the members voted it down. That makes them worse than Manly to be honest...

Don't get me wrong - they would be great for the Knights. We finally get the leagues club we have always needed.

They still remain scum/maggots :)

HSG only ever cleared the debt. That's all. Outside that and recruiting Bennett, they haven't had the impact so many of us anticipated so this idea the club was up there amongst the best is ridiculous.

Wests have a much better and more appealing image than HSG, thus I hope we're able to get those sponsors that didn't want to sponsor the club under them.

Following a meeting earlier on Wednesday between the Hunter Sports Group (HSG) and the Newcastle Knights Members Club, HSG has allowed the current bank guarantee ($10.52 million) to be transferred into a joint-signatory bank account.

HSG has been in fruitful discussion with the NRL over a period of time to identify a unified business model to ensure the long-term future of the Knights.

This guarantee has been placed in a secure bank account with joint signatories being HSG and the Members Club while negotiations between the Members Club, the Knights and the NRL continue.

The current ownership model and management team will remain in place throughout the duration of these discussions.

No further comment will be provided by any parties involved during this period of negotiation.

KEY POINTS:

$10.52 deposited into a joint bank account with joint signatories
Ownership currently remains unchanged
NRL, Knights and Members Club undertake negotiation to identify a new model moving forward
HSG remains committed to contribute and support the Knights into the future"


the bit in bold sounds like they are looking at new owners, or perhaps the ARLC funding it somehow? members club is already negotiating with NRL vs HSG.

Two of those were Newcastle/Hunter boys that didn't want to leave the area to begin with and the other two would have happily come just because of Bennett. We still have a salary cap so it's not like we could throw too much money at them anyway.

He bought Bennett who got the likes of Boyd, Smith and Scott here if that's what you meant?

Given what has transpired these past few days, I wouldn't be surprised if Bennett is struggling to come to a decision. I don't think he has it in himself to walk away from the club after coming so close last year and such a rough start to this season. Pile on the McKinnon who he was preparing as a future captain of the club. But I also understand the financial side to it. I hope he remains at the club next year, Boyd too, but I would respect the decision. I just hope if he does he puts everything he has into this club. All his experience to get us one game further. Same goes for Boyd and any other player that could follow.

Bennett is really in a place where his true character has been tested. It sucks that our owner has come up short on promises to Boyd. I think both men will struggle to leave but I won't hold it against them. That is not the Newcastle way.

Really? From all reports Bennett has been looked after extremely well. If there's one bloke Tinkler has continued to look after and put first while his empire is struggling it's Bennett. Tinkler isn't an idiot. You don't make billions of dollars to begin with by being an idiot. He knows his most important investment has always been Bennett...everything and anyone else (I.e. Boyd) has been put together as a result of Wayne. I also have a feeling that all this hoopla regarding Boyd not getting his third party money from Tinkler is mostly a media beatup (which wouldn't be a first during this saga). I won't go into it, but I really think we'd be hearing more noise from both Boyd and Bennett if they genuinely believed that Boyd was never going to see that money.
