Pistons and Nuggets pull of the first major trade of the season. Denver receive Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb while the pistons receive the one and only AI. I can see positives for both sides although its a potential bonanza for Pistons, albeit at a risk. With Stuckey getting better and better, i can see why Billups would be seen as expendable. Still find it a bit sad to see the Pistons broken up though, they've been together for so long.

Don't like it for the Pistons.. Billups is a better and more efficient outside scorer than AI, he's also a better defender. Billups fit the Pistons like a glove imo...Big loss...

Really? Well for the past 3 yrs they have lost in the ECF so they needed to shake things up.
Billups takes up cap room and Iverson doesnt(free agent at the end of the yr)
Pistons needed to put Stuckey there as as has the makings of a fine point guard. If he remained on the bench then he would have been lost to another team.
Pistons will have something like 20-30 million to play with a sign some a couple of big names.

Stuckey would be a big reason for the trade. He should see more time with the possibility of AI playing the 2 guard every now and then.

Dare i say we could have another player in the Lebron sweepstakes, albeit it being a year early.

Good trade for the Nuggets, they get the better of it. Billups is a pure point guard and he will make Anthony better, Iverson is a good player but if he goes back to SG, then he will only improve.

Mcdyess may not play for Denver as there are rumours he doesnt want to go there, they may pay out his contract for a year or he will be part of the roster but just sit out, i think he will end up playing

nah lebron will be a knickerbocker ... it's been in the making for some time

mcdyess also looks like he isn't happy and could retire OR get a contract buyout and return to the pistons in a month meaning the pistons really won out ...

pistons definately got the better deal in the long run ... AI still got it and stuckey is the future ...

the real question is what do you do if you're the pistons? do you ignore this years FA's and target the 2010? or do you pick up odom or boozer if he becomes available? ... i think everyone is tyring to clean house to try and hit the 2010 summer

Why did the Kings trade Artest and Bibby again??

artest didn't want to be there in the first place ...

If Lebron is legit and wants to win championships as opposed to being in a massive marketing city like New York, he'll join Detroit...

I don't think the Brooklyn/New Jersey Nets or the NY Knicks stand a chance in this race...

NY is where he'll end up ... whether he wins championships or not will ultimately become irrelevent because he will still go down as one of the G.O.A.T's and probably play 3/4 of his NY career in second gear ...

it's his density ... destiny

NY's where the money is baby. It all depends on how badly LBJ wants to win a title, and as to whether he would put commercial interests aside. I don't how much Jay Z would be able to sway Lebron to go to the Nets, as you said, Knicks are definitely the favourites.

Summer of LeBron (2010) also includes superstars like Dwyane Wade, Bosh, Stoudemire, Yao, Nowitzki while also included very good players, like Ginobili, R. Jefferson, J. Johnson, McGrady, Nash and Michael Redd.

In 2009, the list ain't too shabby either, with names like Kobe, Boozer, Iverson, Artest, Hamilton, Kidd, Marion, A. Miller, Odom and Rasheed Wallace.

Detroit are in an interesting situation with 3 big parts of their teams come off-contract at the end of this season. Trading away Billups officially kills of the ethos of team basketball and it looks as though there going to look to built around superstars. If things went a certain way, we could possibly see a very different Detroit team by the end of the the 2010 season.

well they re-signed rip for another 3 ... so that means if they offload AI and sheed they'll have $20m ... they would probably make a play for boozer this season and one of the bigger guns in 2010

My bad, the list i had must not be fully updated. With the loss of McDyess, Detroit need to sign a good low-post scorer soon. Wallace just doesn't cut it these days, not consistent enough. Boozer could be the answer to their problems. Boy Utah would be in trouble if he left, so much for Stockton-Malone Mach II.

it's a bit of a tug of war atm ... mcdyess doesn't want anyone but detroit although denver did say the intended to keep him ... but if he really REALLY doesn't want to play for them like he says (he'd rather retire than play for anyone else) then i can't see them keeping hold of him and i don't think he wants to retire if given the choice

Could be a bit like the Brent Barry situation from last season. Traded by Spurs to Seattle, released by Seattle, and then joined Spurs again. Detroit can't afford to lose Mcdyess, but i can see why Denver would want to keep him, nothing special, but gives them a solid post up guy.

Bucks pull the W out of there arse. Skiles has us playing good defence, great team ball. Hope you'll took my advice to make sure you include Ramon Sessions in your fantasy teams. The kid is a stud.

just on the AI/Billups trade... Big ups for NBA GMs rolling the dice in the past season and a half. Ever since the KG trade teams have been trying to out do each other and its great!

As a sixers fan I love AI as a Piston. He totally fits their tough attitude and with guys like Rip, Prince and Wallace.. Eek! That is nice!

I also REALLY like the Billups fit on the Nuggets. I think he is a great fit with his scoring ability but also his ability to be a true number 3 option behind Smith and Melo. Billups can go off for 30 on any given night also and his play making will be great for the Nuggets.. Just a shame they moved Camby!!

The pistons vs nets game was a perfect snapshot of the the pro's and con's of the trade for Detroit. AI's a great scorer and will really energize that team and city. On the other hand, Devin Harris going off for 38 highlights the difference in defensive capabilities between the two players in the trade. There's no way Harris is allowed to get to the rim so freely if he's come up against Billups.
