Thought that they might use Sheed's contract to acquire another piece but apparently not.

Some 4 way action going on

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5455472

Four NBA teams have agreed to a five-player trade that will send Trevor Ariza to the New Orleans Hornets and Darren Collison to the Indiana Pacers, two league sources said.

In the proposed deal, the Houston Rockets will send Ariza to the Hornets, who in turn will send Collison and James Posey to the Pacers.

The Pacers will send Troy Murphy to the New Jersey Nets. And the Nets will send Courtney Lee to the Rockets.

According to the sources, the Rockets, Hornets, Pacers and Nets have agreed to the details of the trade and are awaiting a trade call with the league this afternoon to make it official.

The Hornets didn't stop there. NBA front office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that in a separate deal, the team agreed to send swingman Julian Wright to Toronto for Raptors guard Marco Belinelli. That deal, like the four-team trade, was also expected to be completed Wednesday.

You know, I gotta say that I like it for all parties concerned, although I thought that the Hornets could have gotten a bit more than just Ariza for Collison. They did however get to shed Posey's contract. Very nice pickup for the Pacers imo.

I guess this also answers the question of whether Favors will start for the Nets as I'm assuming the Nets will role with a starting front court of Lopez and Murphy.

I rate Courtney Lee so I also like the acquisition for the Rockets. Also saved them a ton of money.

Gotta say I don't like it for New Orleans. Getting out of Posey's contract is nice, but they've taken back Ariza's contract and given up Collison, one of the best rookies last year.

In 37 starts last year, Collison averaged 19-9 with 1.4 steals and shot 49-43-85. I think Indiana are going to be very pleased with that move. Also think Rockets have improved. And the Nets can use Murphy to acclimitise Favors and look to trade his expiring $12m contract at the deadline to a contender and get some more assets back that way.

I'd say Indiana, Nets (if they use Murphy later on) & Rockets have made a good move but don't like it for the Hornets.

I like that we finally have a capable PG but Posey joins Rush, Granger, George, Dunleavy and Jones. Hopefully Bird has a few more trades up his sleeve.

I see Posey and Granger spending a bit of time at the 4 in small-ball line-ups this season. Dunleavy is an expiring as well, or is that next year?

That Sessions trade is confirmed.

If memory serves, David Kahn took over the running over the Wolves last year. So in a little over 12 months, he's:

  • drafted three point guards in 2009, traded one (Lawson) to Denver immediately for a future first round pick, and has so far failed to bring over the 5th overall pick from Spain;
  • drafted three small forwards in 2010;
  • traded Jefferson for future picks to clear space in a crowded front-court in 2010;
  • trading for Beasley, despite it still being a crowded front-court in 2010;
  • re-signed Darko for a guaranteed $20m in 2010;
  • signed Sessions and Hollins to free agent contracts in 2009;
  • signed Ridnour as a free agent in 2010;
  • traded his two free agent signings from 2009 for cap relief in 2010.
That's off the top of my head. They still have no true shooting guard OR players with consistent 3-point range. There's still a logjam at point guard and in the front-court. They're trying to rebuild but have overpaid ordinary veterans to large contracts.

I'm really confused. Can anyone help me out and explain what they're trying to achieve? With K-Love already having a whinge in the press recently about not wanting to be a 6th man this year, what are the odds of him agreeing to a contract extension next summer? 10-1? 100-1?

I wouldn't say that Love is definitely on his way out of Minny, but another indication is given that he's not thrilled to be there. Whilst he's almost a certain starter this year, I wonder how many minutes he'll play with Darko, Beasley and co also clamouring for minutes.

The only thing for me that points to him signing an extension is a lock-out - even then, Kahn strikes me as the type of fool who wouldn't offer him an extension until after a new CBA is agreed to, potentially pissing Love off.

Dunleavy is expiring so is Foster, Ford and Jones. Next summer's free agency has been their target for a while but there isn't much to offer to make Indy a contender apart from maybe a huge deal for Tony Parker or 'Melo.

Ever since the Auburn Hills fight Indy have been living in this void of too good for a draft pick and too bad for a playoff spot.

I feel bad for you Pacers fans - people sometimes forget that you had completed a thrashing of the defending champs prior to that melee. Wonder how that year and subsequent years would have panned out had it never happened?

Dunleavy would have some attraction to playoff teams I reckon, but it's what you would get back or be willing to take back. If Orlando are sputtering a bit and still can't work Bass into the rotation, maybe a Pietrus & Bass for Dunleavy trade would be appealing to both sides? As you say, not sure how high Indy would be on FA's list of potential destinations, so maybe best bet would be to trade some of those expiring's for pieces before the deadline?

The worst kind of limbo to be in.

Wonder what affect the trade will have on Chris Paul's mindset. Don't feel as though it made the Hornets any better.

Raptors deal Belinelli to Hornets for Wright

Posted Aug 11 2010 7:42PM
TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Raptors have acquired forward Julian Wright from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for guard Marco Belinelli.

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound Wright averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 68 games with New Orleans last season.
"This move should help balance the roster and alleviate some of the redundancy we have with our guards," Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a release Wednesday. "Julian is another young athletic player that will add depth at the small forward position."
Wright was the 13th pick in the 2007 NBA draft and has averaged 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in 179 career games.
Belinelli, acquired from Golden State last summer, averaged 7.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 66 games with the Raptors.

yes the malice at the palace really impacted our franchise but finally we are in a good position plenty of young talent and expiring contracts i think posey might be dealt he has value to a contender looking for a perimiter defender who can stroke the 3 if not he is a good locker room presence.
This is the 1st pacer trade in a long time we have come out on top and if we do indeed let our expirings expire we have a couple of options we could throw max money at Al Horford and hope atlanta doesn't match then you have Carl Landry/David West but i really see us trying to move some of our other expiring contracts before the deadline.
we should get a decent draft pick next year and we drafted well this year imo.
Indy is really starting to resemble a team with light at the end of the tunnel I'd be happy in a couple of years to be looking something like OKC now.

good work larry bird keep it coming hopefully a new head coach next year (unfortunatley Byron Scott signed up for the clevland job :x)

Next summer is going to show what Bird is made of as a GM he inherited a lot of sh*t contracts and baggage and now he will have a chance to build a playoff team but look at the draft and trade history it's not flash infact it's f**king terrible. Get the team then fire JOB's ass.

Mate, the Hawks will match any and all offers for Horford. Happily and without hesitation.
yeah i think they will to but they just dropped a heap of money on joe johnson if they struggle again this year (I mean in the playoffs) and indiana throws max money at him i think we can make atlanta at least think twice about it but as i say expect indy to try and do something at the deadline. did u hear about the hawks shopping josh smith around?
