Interesting possibility. Guess it all hinges on whether Melo would be interested in signing an extension with the Nets. Can't imagine they would trade away Favors for just a potential one-year rental of Melo.

Favors and Harris i don't like it, but if they get Melo on an extended deal for say 5 years, well, could be a good one.

Whats DJ Augustin like as a PG.

Sending out fav and harris doesn't leave them with much around Melo though.. Lopez and that is it really.

I know the owner wants to make noise but meh

Reminds me a bit of the Kobe-->Chicago potential trade from years ago. Kobe didn't want Deng to be part of a trade deal for him because it'd mean that the Bulls roster would be pillaged and wouldn't be much better than the Lakers one he was frustrated with.

If the Nets have to give up that much then I can't see, from a basketball perspective, why Melo would be interested.

The Nuggets are talking to the Sixers about a trade to send Carmelo Anthony to Philadelphia in exchange for Andre Iguodala, a Western Conference executive told the Philadelphia Daily News.
The Sixers were not on the list of teams that Anthony was interested in when he requested a trade in advance of his free agency next summer.

Meh... I'd do it because then you can use Turner and Young better as Melo is different to them where as Iggy is similar.

Still if Melo wouldn't mind Jersey I would try and get the sixers in and flip Iggy to Denver, Melo to Jersey and Favors to Philly. That would give us Favors, Turner, Holiday to grow together with other young talent like Young, Speights and Hawes. Plus we would be a lottery team again which would allow us to look for another young player or combine that pick with a young guy and get back a solid vet (though we would probably lose a pick or two if we are only giving up Iggy)

edit - Ok now there is some talk of us trading Iggy for Melo then sending Holiday and Turner for CP3... I dunno how I feel about that one sure you get two top 5 players in their position but I don't think Melo/CP3/Brand gets past the Heat. Nor do I think CP3 and Melo would be happy waiting for 2012 and Dwight.

While Iggy for Melo is a pretty good deal, Holiday and Turner is alot to give up for Cp3.

Also depends on whether both guys would want to stay in Philly for the long-term. Say you make both deals, and Melo bolts at the end of the coming season, you can bet that Paul would be looking to bolt in 2012.

I agree on all points. Plus even if it happens Melo, Brand, CP3 and scrubs won't get you far in the play offs.

I'd rather try and grow with Iggy, turner, holiday and look to add young guys (eg helping the nets and getting back Favors)

Also had a laugh at this one

Eddy Curry reported to camp weighing 325 pounds, according to a person in the organization.
Curry has reportedly gained 20 pounds since April.
When asked if Curry was already behind, head coach Mike D’Antoni said, “Well, yeah.”

Curry

I like your earlier idea of sending Iggy out and getting Favors in return (with Melo going to NJ).

Turner, Holiday and Favors. That's a really nice young core.

Sixers fans are saying that ESPN just said our offer is Turner, Thad, kapono and maybe a pick...

Melo and Iggy together would be nice but I dunno.. I've kinda pinned my hopes on Turner for the moment. Wouldn't want to give him up for a rental!

Line-up 1

PG - Holiday
SG - Iguodala
SF - Young
PF - Brand
C - Hawes

with Williams, Turner, Speights & Kapono off the bench.

Or Line-up 2 (hypothetical)

PG - Paul
SG - Williams
SF - Anthony
PF - Brand
C - Hawes

with Young, Speights & Kapono off the bench.

Biggest weakness for both line-ups would be three point shooting. And I know Williams would be beaten badly at the two guard, so maybe try to pick up a vet for the minimum and bring him off the bench.

But with Paul you're getting the league's best point guard & with Anthony a top 5 pure scorer. Turner seems nice & they're talking up Holiday to start training camp but will either ever be as good as Paul? And Anthony is not the defender that Iguodala is but is superior in almost every other aspect.

I'd pull the trigger on both deals. IMO that's a top 4 team in the East at worst and better than the current line-up.

Interesting to see what would happen with Billups if Anthony is traded. I would love him at the Hawks and Portland would also be a great fit. He's also said he wants to play for something so he won't want to stick around if Anthony is traded and the Nuggets rebuild.

Yeah I think number 2 is a pipe dream and won't happen. I don't know if Holiday can be Paul but he can be in the top 3 defensive pg's in the game. Plus he has other nice skills and is on a rookie contract. I'd prefer to keep him and see for now as the 76ers are not in win now mode.

Holiday, Turner and Iggy gives us awesome defense. If only we could get an all star big man then we could make a run for it... Melo would be a nice fit next to Iggy and go with Holiday/Iggy/Melo/Brand/Hawes but even then I don't see them getting out of the 2nd round.

Really imo they are better off trying to build an actual team while they have some nice young players. It would be cool to have CP3 and Melo in Philly if we could get the right players around them but we couldn't so I'd rather have a team than CP3 and Melo with a bunch of scrubs
