Hadn't heard it but it's interesting. Horford seems like a pretty good fit next to Love and if Al continues to develop and refine his low-post game, Love would seem to provide a floor-spacing presence that Smith doesn't.

Having said that, Smith is the vastly superior defensive player and that's where we constantly fall short, defending team. If we trade our best defensive player for merely a slightly better offensive player I'm not sure we'd improve as a team.

I also think Smith is the better all-around player, so I'd be expecting another player from Minnesota to make it even. I'd hate to trade him just to save money.

Edit: I like this trade better (would also include draft pick or two). A Paul-Johnson-Williams-Horford-Okafor starting 5 would contend out East IMO.

Well you'd have to put him somewhere.

There wouldn't be a better SG there since I traded Redd away. Maybe Salmons but I'd give Jennings a go at it.

Jennings is a woeful shooter, one of the worst in the league, would make a horrible SG no matter which way you slice it. You'd be better off playing Paul at SG and Jennings at the point if you were that desperate to have him on the court.

Harsh.

He's got nice arc on his jumper and is solid from deep (37%) so I don't think it's his jumper per se. What hurts his overall FG% I think is his strength, or lack of. He'd have to go close to the lightest starting player in the league since Iverson (Jennings is listed at 170 pounds). If he can put on some muscle, it will help with his finishing at the rim which will pad up his percentage a bit - he shot only 42% in the basket area last year whilst taking 286 shots from that distance. The league average for point guards was 56.5% so if he can just lift it up to the average, his FG% improves to above 40% - still not great but a lot better than 37%, or an extra point per game.

But the strength reason is why playing him at off-guard is ridiculous - he would be absolutely destroyed every night defensively. As it is, he has trouble against bigger point guards.

And yes, that Smith trade to Indiana (or something as equally sh*thouse) would just about do it for me as a Hawks fan.

Celtics forward Kevin Garnett took his trash-talking too far during Tuesday night's Boston-Detroit game, according to message posted on the Twitter account of Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva.
"KG called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke," said one message on Villanueva's account.
Villanueva suffers from alopecia universalis, a medical condition that results in hair loss. Garnett is known for his trash talk.
The Pistons confirmed that Villanueva posted the tweets but had no further comment.
"My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact 'You are cancerous to your team and our league,' " Garnett said. "I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball."

Anyone else really hate KG since he joined Boston?

Yes.

What did it for me was when he got down on hands and knees against the Raptors (Calderon I think?). As everyone pointed out afterwards, the joke has never and would never do something like that against a top opponent (Duncan, Shaq in his prime etc), he only ever does it against b-graders or worse. For all his supposed intensity and bravado, he's never backed it up against anyone of note. Props to Villanueva for challenging him to a bout in the ring too, classic!

Probably the most overrated player of his generation IMO. A top, multi-skilled player sure, but I've never considered him among the game's upper crust. That both Pierce and Ray Ray have out-performed him in just about every playoff series since they teamed up also shows who the weakest of the big 3 is as well.

Yeah I remember that. It was Calderon. At the time I remember lolling when I saw it primarily because, as you said, KG would never do that to someone equal to him. Classic bully.
