If it's going to be someone currently within the game, Greenburg's the only one. I'm not worried about any potential bias. He's too professional an administrator.

Otherwise if it's not Greenburg, I think we need to look overseas. NFL, NBA, EPL executives or club executives in those competitions should all be looked at. Doesn't matter that they're not 'RL people'. If they're credentialed and experienced enough, they'll deliver.

I think it's imperative that the candidate be Australian, so as to fully understand the Australian sporting landscape.

I agree though I think if a guy like Greenberg was to be chosen I reckon he would be able to overcome those bias factors.

You got to admit he'd be an upgrade on Dave.

I don't think we know the market well enough. Nor do we know what kind of CEO the Commission is after. To tough to tell.

Yeah you're right, although Grant did hint at someone aggressive who's going to help expand the game.

I'll put my faith in the Chairman and the commissioners to come up with the right decision.

Not necessarily. It's quite easy to explain the NRL's current situation to any foreign sports executive:

'Currently the dominant sporting competition in Australia's first and third most populated states, but second nationally. Your challenge (should you choose to accept it:)) is to make RL #1 all the while strengthening its base and expanding the game to new regions to maximise revenue. However, you'll have to overcome years of infighting and a main competitor in the AFL which is the darling of all levels of government and headed by one of the most cunning and formidable sporting administrators in the country.'

However, if you do want to go Australian but not Greenberg then you have to go outside RL circles. Maybe someone like James Sutherland?

We need co-CEO's to represent both NSW and QLD.

Tommy Raudonikis and Sam Backo are the only two that should be considered.

I agree. Look overseas and get someone who has no links with our sport. We need someone to run the NRL like a business and stop pandering to former players and media.

With so many old boys in high positions within the clubs, media and the NRL itself, i'm sure many will resist big changes because "that's not how we do things in the NRL". We need someone to say "Well i don't know what has been done before me but this is how it will be done now". In my experience an external person brings a fresh look without bowing to pressure from guys that have been around since the stone age.

Agree with all you have said. A good executive can walk into an organisation and turn it around even if they don't know much about it. You see it all over the world. Someone at work told me that the best "Director of HR and IT" he ever had was an Electrical Engineer and had never managed any sort of HR or IT before. He got results because he was a great leader, charismatic, results driven, and good at managing important stakeholders both internally and externally. The fact he didn't have a background in HR and IT made no difference.

In regards to the bolded black, if we do get an Australian, I agree that he should not be a RL man. We need somebody that won't bow to the "old boys" pressure and mentality and take risks to take a few risks to take the game forward.
