New Melbourne Stadium

From all reports Collingwood will be using OP as it's training ground.

Agree about the lighting as well, it's going to be one spectacular stadium that's for sure.

OP is going to be knocked down and a MCG size oval will be laid with facilities (fencing, small grandstand, terracing etc...) for Collingwood training and to host VFL & TAC Cup matches.

Anyone who says there is a bad seat at Suncorp needs some serious help. Best RL stadium atm.

The new Olympic Park looks brilliant.

We won't know ourselves...after years of standing on sh*tty gravel and concrete slabs or sitting in seats where you can't stretch your legs even if you are a shorty....virtually no shelter from the rain and wind...and horrible horrible toilets..:)

The charm of the old facilities at OP is why it will be sad to go from there...reminds me of the suburban games.

Awsome stadium. Storm just need to make it known that it's their stadium and not the soccers. Who gets first dibs? Has schedule changed again.

You can thank soccer for the capacity. If it was left up to the Storm, it would have been at 20k. And Storms main rival will probably be the new Union team, as they will be sharing in-season. As for who opens the stadiums, and plays a game first: lol. Probably the most irrelevant issue going around. That said, we'll average higher than the Storm, and I don't suspect Storm will average over 22k either (which isn't bad).

We're a bigger club than the Storm. End of.

Personally I love getting down to Melbourne, I'll certainly be taking the beautiful bride down for a long weekend when we play Melb there.

Then why don't you piss off to a soccer forum instead of trolling here?

For the record, you can't really assume the Victory are bigger than the Storm given you play at grounds with two different capacities.

Really?

Also forgetting that the Storm's NSWRL Premier League is playing out of OP as of next year.

There is a push for the official opening of the Stadium to be the ANZAC Test in 2010. There is a prominent member of parliament who is keen for rugby league to have a showpiece event open the stadium.

Here's a fly bye showing what the new area will look like with OP redeveloped as the oval.

Take note Sydney and Perth, this is how to build a sporting precinct!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyOAtcWYmt4&feature=channel

Originally, Sydney bid for the 1988 olympics.

I found the plans for it in an old book one day. The new stadium - and olympic park precinct - was to be built in the Moore Park area. Keeping in mind this was pre-SFS, we'd have had our big stadium right there in the city, along with all the other stuff that was built out in the wasteland at Homebush (aquatic centre, etc).

That wou;d have been a great sports precinct.

You can rubbish it all you like, but the Homebush precinct is a fantastic facility and is probably in the most accessible spot for EVERYONE in the Sydney metro area. A precinct like Homebush based close to the city would have caused complete traffic chaos during an Olympic time and for any major event held there after it, and would be largely inaccessible to people to the west, north-west and south-west of Sydney.

Sorry, should have mentioned.

The plans also included extensive plans for road upgrades and public transport to Moore Park including light rail and metro links.

The stadium wouldn't have been multi-purpose - at least the plans didn't indicate it, although it did mention the stadium becoming the home of the NSWRL post games - we'd have a 70,000 seat RL specific stadium on the city's doorstep with transit links.

Sydney's two major stadia would have been it at Moore Park, and probably an upgraded Parramatta Stadium in the West, and the Grand Final and other major events would still be held in the heart of the city rather in no-mans land out there.

I think it would have been far better.
