guess your just another yuppie who'd rather watch a game with 15,000 people in a 100,000 seat stadium like anz stadium where u can barely make out what team has the ball, i on the other hand like old school rough and tumble ground like campbelltown and penrith and i really think olympic park had that sort of feel to it, have u ever watched a game at telstra dome? come talk to me when u have

Nope Im dead against the idea of watching a game with 15,000 at ANZ stadium. In fact I f**king hate watching football at an all purpose oval venue. My best experience....Leichardt 2008 Sunday footy Warriors beating the Tigers.
You cant compare watching League at Docklands to what it will be like at the new purpose built "rectangular stadium".
I am making my first trip to Olympic park on ANZAC Saturday...I will see what sort of "feel" it has, running track and all.

Etihad is $hit for footy.

Telstra Stadium is the worst for footy.

Olympic Park, it's track, cowbell and homosexual mascots are pretty bad.

This new rectangular, purpose built stadium is going to be awesome for Rugby League.

Nearly as good as Jubilee! :D

i actually really enjoy footy at olympic park and dont see any reason to waste all the money on a new stadium, but it will be fun to see what they can come up with, but i hope they play one or 2 games still at olympic park each year!
That will be a bit difficult as it will be an AFL ground :D and probably losing some of its seating

I saw the stadium last weekend and well it's progressing well, I can't imagine the drought is helping to slow contruction.

Yes I have and its sh*t, but this is no Telstra Dome.

In terms of Oval grounds.. The Dome wasnt too bad (for an Oval)

As for being a fan of the old style grounds, they are fine for smaller clashes. Personally when I wanted that fix, I would head to a Queensland Cup game for a bunch of tinnies and sausage sangers.

When I am paying top dollar to see a proffesional sport, I want a seat, if possible some sort of protection from the rain and ease of access to amenities, catering and public transport. Bring on the new stadia!

But to be fair, Vics. do turn up in big nos. to the various codes of footy and other sports. One e,g. Melbournians got the highest attendance for a non-final in the RWC as compared to nsw:D

Please do not get the terms 'events capital' and 'sports capital' confused...

As a big league fan and ex Melbourne resident i must say melbournes crowds will be much improved by the new stadium - it is the worst place to go for a night at the footy if u arent a melbourne supporter -which lots of league supporters in melbourne arent - try being at the ends of the ground where their is gravel to sit on and no protection from the weather - ive taken friends their before (vistorians) who loved the atmosphere and the game but hated the stadium and wouldnt come back because of it - new stadium = new fans and bigger crowds

In other news for the Stadium, the oportunity for an organisation to secure the naming rights has been advertised in the Financial Review newspaper.

In terms of completion date, the original timeline of a mid-December handover has slipped from anywhere from Early-May to mid-July. If the May date is confirmed by the end of the season the Storm will request away games for the first 4 to 5 rounds, then open the new Stadium and play all home games there. If a later completion date is confirmed, the Storm will plan for 50/50 split, much like the Broncos did in 2003 when transitioning from ANZ Stadium to the new Lang Park. The silver lining is that the Storm will almost definitely get to host the first event at the MRS.

Looking good, it massively dwarves OP looking at the pics. Will be a world class RL venue when finished. For all its flaws modern stadia like ANZ do have a higher attendance average than the grass hill suburban grounds so it does tell you something.

thats not a given at all.

Melbourne victory will be playing Asian champions league in that period of time.

It'll easily be the best stadium in the competition upon it's completion. I'm sure there'll be many who say Suncorp holds 50 odd thousand which makes it superior but as great as that stadium is, i've had the "pleasure" 0of sitting in the top tier about 10 rows from the back and IMO it was absolutely sh*tful given it was so high. In Melbourne's new stadium you won't have that problem with 31K and there won't be a bad seat in the house.

I personally think the best stadium in the NRL is Robina. Basically Lang Park minus the nosebleed seats. This new Melbourne joint is looking good though.

When I was in Melbourne last I had a peek at it, It looks great, excellent design, you'll be on top of the game. Skilled is probably the best stadium atm for best viewing points, this will probably top it.

I agree that Robina is the best stadium atm but as mentioned this will top it. From what i can gather they're pretty similar seating wise but the Tits stadium is a bit more basic.

That said it still kills nearly every other stadium in the comp and it's certainly among the best. A Melbourne stadium and 2 Queensland stadiums as the best 3 in the comp, who'd have imagined that 5 or 10 years ago while not having 1 in the games heartland!
