what winger off contract would be a better option than guru and be happy to stay for the reported $120K cap that DA puts on wingers

for a start, one that could play more than 15 games is a good start, I love Eric to death but he's hit 3o now and injuries are really starting to hamper his progress..

Bryson Goodwin was on 55k last year and blokes like the young Canberra winger and Cooper Vuuna are on moderate contracts as well...

they are out there..

Bryson Goodwin was a good finisher but doesn't do the hard yards as well as Guru. While we have someone as small as Burt on one side of the field we need a balance with a big bloke who can cover his workload in the scoots on the other side. Guru does it perfectly. Yeah he's had a knee injury but that's something that could happen to anyone, and the fact that he has come back early from it twice says something about the guy, and also our medical staff i think. Other than that he has a back issue that needs to be monitored and may cause him to miss a couple of games a year.
I guess it all comes down to how much he actually wants but i have to say i will be extremely disappointed if he leaves, which by all reports is a given and doubt we will be able to replace him with someone anywhere near as good

well to add to that Eric has also had back issues for years that has prevented him to train regularly, I just don't thinkhe's worth the money he's currently on and their focus on using that money towards a brilliant play maker is probably what this club needs..

I'd also be sad to see him go but we may need to look at someone more youthful that would cost us less..

Eric is awesome but sometimes you have to make the call. He's another forward for us. It will be hard but he is no spring chicken any more. Very sad.

Cowboys release Tongan stars

AAP Fri, 25 Jun 2010 11:38:00

North Queensland coach Neil Henry has wished released forwards Antonio Kaufusi and Manase Manuokafoa all the best as they leave to immediately link up with rival NRL clubs.
Kaufusi has joined Newcastle and gives the Knights some much needed depth in the front row after the off-season departures of Chris Houston and Danny Wicks and the long-term injury to Evarn Tuimavave.
Manuokafoa is to join the Parramatta Eels, with a deal expected to be finalised in the coming days.
The two Tongan internationals came to the Cowboys in 2009 with a great opportunity, but both failed to meet expectations.
Henry said he hopes things work out for the pair as they look to further their careers elsewhere.
"Both Manase Manuokafoa and Antonio Kaufusi have sought and been granted a release from their contracts at the club and on behalf of the club we wish them all the best at their new clubs and for them and their families for the rest of the season," Henry said.
"They've been granted a release and we will move on. We thank them for their time here at the club and they're grateful for that too.
"They've been in and addressed the boys and they'll be moving on to another chapter in their football lives. These things happen in footy and we wish them all the best."

I guess it's just hard to let go sometimes to your favourite players. I hated it the first time he left and now it looks like happening again. I totally agree that half is our No1 priority. I just find it a little odd about the supposed limits Ando has put on wingers. IMO you pay a player what THEY are worth, not their position. i personally think Guru is worth more than Reddy (on the proviso that we get 20 games a season minimum out of him) but because of his position he apparently isn't. Makes no sense

Its times like this where I like the salary cap dispensation for sons of former players who play at their club. In this situation, Grothe could be given extra.

Amazing we chased Manase Manuokafoa before he signed with the cowboys. If we signed him then it would have been expensive. Now we get him very very cheap!!!

you boys bought a dud hey, he has been given ample opportunity to shine up here over 1.5 seasons and has been nothing but a big bitch. Like Kafusi, good luck to yas, but seriously, don't expect too much from this guy.

I don't think he was bought to play NRL to be honest, only as back up if injuries occur, he'll go alright for Wenty even with Bert as coach.

We were ridiculed when we signed Fui, too.

No offense, but it may simply be that he hasn't has the right coach to get him going.

I find it hillarious how some idiots claim that we've signed a dud purely because he didn't perform as well as he should of at another club...there are several examples where players before better at different envioronments and it remains to be seen whether this guy does..

here's 10 players who have played worse at their prevous clubs..

Kevin Kingston - Cronulla
Joe Gulavao Souths
Michael Robertson - Canberra
Dave Shillington - Roosters
Dane Neilson - Cronulla
Zeb Taia - Parra
Kevin Costigan - Canberra
Ash Graham - Parra
Ryan Tandy - West Tigers
Shane Rodney - Penrith

and that was in a pinch...

I'm not sure how much backrow he's played but what this tells me is that the coaching staff don't rate the 5th option prop, in this case we're probably talking about Pele Peletese or even Mitch Allgood..

the club are probably trying to cover for Tim Mannah who would almost be an aotomatic selection for the Origin 3..

btw, there's a seperate problem right there if Timmy does make it and that is bonus payments..

ONLY if we were stupid enough to include the incentive to play SoO as a 'bonus' option in his contract. Honestly, any GM who, under the current cap system, pays ANY play ANY sort of bonus (over and against match payments) should be sacked on the spot.

And MM played almost exclusively 2nd row for the Rabbitohs when he was 'pretty good'
