I'd hardly call Merrin proven. After most origin games I have to scratch my head to wonder if he got on the field. Hardly anyone on here has him in their team. Guy is a borderline bench player.

Moylan certainly has the talent and would be in contention for the 1 and the 6 if he goes there for penrith. In origin they seem to like robust players which puts him behind the likes of Dugan and Tedesco at fullback and his inexperience and defence will be issues at 5/8. I hope he does become a success there though cause he could definitely be NSWs best option at 6.

No one apart from panther fans have Cartwright in their team. The guy has a heap of potential but at the moment has as many bad games as good ones. He would be more likely to throw an offload to will chambers in our own 20m the he would be to make a line break at origin level. He'll get there one day but unless his consistency improves drastically it won't be this year.

Bryce was good last year besides the opening couple of rounds. Your comments were true for his rookie season but its like you didn't watch him last year, by midway through the season he was consistently one of our best, whether he was played in the backrow or forced to cover the halves. Im not sure if he is ready for origin, but he isn't some up and down rookie any more by any means.

Bryce Cartwright will need to have a consistent season in first grade first before he gets close to a NSW jumper for mine. He can play very well and then very badly the next week.

Looking to the future means picking someone who we think is ready, not someone who we hope is ready and crashes and burns.

Peats is a maybe but he isn't outstanding, nothing to suggest he is better than Ennis. Cook needs to prove he can last the grind of the NRL. Wouldn't pick Moylan as a half without a full season at Penrith.

NSW took a step backwards choosing Pearce last year and deserved the loss.

Some of you blokes really need to pay closer attention to on which side of the field these blokes are stationed. You can't pick Bird and Hoffman or Graham to play second row. They're all left edge forwards.

The last one is the worst though. Watmough has not been an edge forward for about 5 years now. Lock and second row are not interchangeable. They're very different roles, which is why I dislike the concept of "backrower" - lock has more in common with prop than it does with second row, for example.

These days it does but back in the day it was a bit different. Anyway its just another outdated term used in RL.

Anyway I think we should really be looking at some of the younger guys for the backrow, guys like Tyson Frizzell and Wade Graham should be in the mix. I'd have Cartwright and Moreoa around the squad this year as well but I don't think I'd pick wither of the last two unless they really are in great form going in. For the front row and lock guys like Klemmer, Paulo, RCG, Vaughan, Evans, Trbejovic all need to be in the mix.

Barring injury Merrin, Hoffman and Cordner will likely all be there, I'd say that is enough experience in the forwards. Personally I'd probably leave Gallen out. NSW is f**ked for a hooker though, we need Peats to stay healthy.

Hopefully Tedesco stays fit and reproduces his form from last season. And the selectors aren't too dumb to select him.

I could see a bench spot for Austin if his form continues. Can cover most of the backline and can be hard to tackle.

You would think if his form continues from last year he has to be picked but who the f**k knows. Laurie still seems to think the team that got 50 put on them deserves some loyalty.

I think the bench is the perfect spot for Austin in Origin. At least initially.
He is a high energy player who could turn a game with his running game, can cover anywhere in the backline, lock forward and hooker, or just come on and play a floating support/2nd fullback role and impact the game.

But if his 2015 form holds true, he's not going to get that chance as we'll be the starting 5/8th, and they'll need to make sure the hooker and halfback are both strong organisers and kickers to allow him to focus on what he's good at. He's not the sort of player you can just chuck in and expect him to play well regardless, you've got to make sure you have the pieces around him to make sure he can give you what you need him too.

:clap::clap::clap:

The game has moved to middle third v edge players in the forwards and the importance or right/left players is huge right now

playing a left edge player, be it a half, centre, second rower or wing on the right at rep footy is asking for trouble.

Unless you're JT, SBW, or someone of that ilk who can play either side and still be studs, you need to get specialist left and right side players now at wing, centre, second row and half.
This is the split halves era and the by product of that is for the most part players are playing extremely defined roles
