New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

You're making the assumption that the NRL will decide it. They wont. Aussie Broadcasters will, as they always have. With a Perth team they can sell add space and Subscriptions. They can do neither in NZ. When Sky don't stump up the cash to support a second NZ team it will come down to which bid has the most benefit for those broadcasters. It wont be the NZ one, assuming there is even a bid.

The NRL still make the decision but yeah the broadcasters will have a lot of influence on it. But I’m just saying it comes down to the numbers in those markets, not eastern Australia. A Perth side has no more pull in Sydney than NZ, probably less.
It just comes down to whether a Perth side is worth more to Aussie broadcasters than an NZ side is worth to Sky and the NZ FTA networks. The NRL will just go with whoever gives them a bigger revenue boost. Honestly I’m not convinced either option is going to have broadcasters tripping over their chequebooks.

An extra game on its own is worth a lot for foxtel

The next tv deal should see the value of the rights increase by over 100 million pa

That’s because we don’t have a broadcaster committed to the game more broadly. The fumblers and 7 (and NAB) form an unholy alliance which we lack. Channel 7 deliberately held back that story about the afl player caught with cocaine so they could turn it in to a redemption story. The interview was vomit worthy.

Channel nine wouldve reported it as the major news story then a current affair wouldve rubbed salt into the wounds

You can write off the FTA networks here. TV3\Discovery is just about broke and TVNZ wont come near offering even the lowest SKY will offer The woman's rugby world cup was on FTA because tv3 teamed up with spark to outbid SKY. Neither could afford it on their own. Now there is no one who can outbid Sky or even come close.
If neither team appeals to them, its the one they can make money off of. They can still make money off of Perth. They can't off of NZ2.

West Coast Pirates and Brisbane Firehawks will be the contenders.

There will be opposition to the Firehawks from the other SEQ clubs, but they're the wealthiest and safest bid in the country. If the Dolphins boost ratings then the broadcasters will be interested in another SEQ team.

It'll come down to the business plan put together by the Pirates. If it's strong then they should get the licence. If it's not then the Firehawks will get it due to their wealth.

I love how you come up with numbers. Ok lets play, why would a ninth game be worth $100million? Tv across the board is currently paying around $47.5mil a time slot. Why is the ninth one going to be worth double that?

Only way it goes up $100mil is if we go to open market and we have three bidders like just happened elsewhere.

No way in the world Firehawks come in as team 18 by 2028. Never going to happen.
Oops silly me, I forgot we are dealing with rugby league. Our leaders are so weak you may well be right lol

Current deal 430 million
New deal 530 million minimum

extra content via women’s comp, pre season comp, end of season comp team 18,
and a proper recognition of the value of the dolphins

if anything we should actually get way way more

20 million a year is how much each nrl clubs
now gets in kiwi dollars from the arlc

it’s five million over the salary cap to allow for funding of junior teams
Ah right, as you wrote $NZ I assumed you meant they were getting that cash in NZ.

warriors have done a great job at producing nrl players

Jeez for a rugby league fan you sure like to invent negative things about the game in nz
The Warriors are good at producing players for other teams and missing out on the potential of other players that other teams pick up and turn into superstars.

If you'd been a Warriors fan since 1995 you'd be as negative as anybody.

Buddy I was there in 2002 when Stacey jones scored that try and the roosters were crapping themselves

heck pretty sure it was that year I almost started a riot at dogs vs warriors semi final when the warriors came back in the second half and got the w. I was commentating the play and everyone around me was doggies and wanted to bash me

also been present when the kiwis beat the Aussies in the wc final in Brisbane

the fact nz could produce a side like the one in 2002 mostly of locals shows what nz can do

guys like Stacey jones, lauititi, meli, palaesina absolute freaks
