Yet if Perth averaged that you would say they are a success

looks like your bar has different settings
Eh? If perth or Wellington avg’d 16k that they would be a success, because our bar in nrl is low compared to other top tier sports around the world. Not sure you’ve thought this argument through lol

Thanks for answering how I thought you would

is there any particular reason why a Perth nrl team can’t average 30k ?

The crowd in Wellington looked good around the 17k mark. Looked good on tv and had atmosphere.
I think if they had their own team, they'd average around 15k. If they were successful on field maybe 18 to 20, if they sucked probably 11 to 14
Basically on par with most NRL teams.
Completely viable location.

Geez you are full of shit. Looked good on TV? Thats because they closed off half the stadium due to low interest.

This is how much the city wants an NRL team.

11/5/13 Warriors vs Bulldogs 30,112
29/03/14 Warriors vs tigers 22,512
08/08/15 Warriors vs Dragons 18,317
16/04/16 Warriors vs Bulldogs 18,212
19/07/19 Warriors vs Sharks 14,295
03/03/23 Warriors vs Newcastle 16,676

Not a good trend at all.

@Gobsmacked is a troll. I don't take anything he says seriously. He just wants a reaction.

Disagree, those numbers suggest theres enough interest to be able to have a 15k avg attending active fanbase. That’s on par with over half the clubs in the nrl. It’s always dangerous to suggest one way or the other that one off crowds featuring neutral clubs are reflective of long term support for a home city club. It’s an Indicator only of interest in NRL.

So Perth can’t get bigger crowds because it’s not popular … yet we still should a team there

Ok
Not just perth. Some nrl clubs in rl heartland have had 50-100 years and still can’t avg 15k crowds. You asked why perth wouldn’t avg 30k, the reason is nrl isnt big enough a sport in australia to draw those sort of crowds anywhere except brisbane.

in perth in first ten years 15k would be ok, 17k would be excellent, anything more would be outstanding.

So if it’s not a bi sport why add a team in Perth ?

take a deep breath next time ….

Errr it’s not a big sport anywhere crowd wise other than brisbane if 30k is the bar you’re setting for the game!
That’s like saying why play anywhere other than brisbane lol
you’ve not thought this through.

15k for perth or Wellington would be fine, anything above and they’d be doing better than most heartlands clubs.

So it’s not a big sport so let’s add another dud team

Except its not a one off. If its trend over ten years. There was nothing on against it last night. It had plenty of advertising, with tickets at $20 and it could only get 16.6K. Its not a coincidence that they shut half the stadium, they knew what they would get.

Sure, but at least my opinion is actually somewhat informed by knowledge of the city and the sport within the NZ context.
Sure it is

maybe you have to learn to accept others opinions like I accept yours even though it’s of questionable veracity

You need to look at team form too...

Warriors placings 2013 to 2016: 11th, 9th, 13th,10th - average 10.75 (10-11th place let's say)

Warriors placings 2017-19: 13th, 8th, 13th - average 11.333 (let's say 11-12th)

Warriors placings 2020-2022: 10th, 12, 15th - average 12.333 (let's say 12-13th)

And I bet if you remove the one exceptional season (a fluke?) from 2017-19, the slide really comes into focus.

Considering the club has been on the downhill since Ivan Cleary left to coach the Panthers (a slide exacerbated by the demoralizing effect of playing in exile during the pandemic).. are the falling crowds for Wellington games any wonder?

If 14-16k is the hardcore, the base of Wellington league fans when you strip off the fairweather followers/casual fans who will only go if a team's doing well... then that's some kinda decent bedrock.. isn't it?

Plus I think promotion of the game could have been far better.
