New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I thought this part was fairly poignant

"I do see it as at a crossroads though and if we don’t grab the next 18 months and turn this around you will see the NRL grow like the NFL and we will then be in a situation where we potentially become Brazilian soccer… selling talent off and bringing them back for international windows."
You do know the meaning of poignant ? For me there`s nothing poignant about it, in fact I would liken my reaction on reading that to be more like euphoric.
As I`ve always said about Oz rugby, to quote Macbeth: " we`ve scotched the snake not killed it". I won`t be happy until Oz rugby is dead and buried and it`s one asset the wallabies are a threat to no-one.

Who needs friends when you`ve got enemies like these.

"The NRL, on the other hand, is captivating, entertaining and competitive almost entirely across the 17-team league. There’s a refreshing unpredictability about the vast majority of the contests, the quality is high with few exceptions and uniformly strong attendance creates a consistent stadium atmosphere."
Super rugby doesn’t need to be entertaining as it’s a development competition

Yes.

evoking a keen sense of sadness or regret.

The way he's presented the statement there sounds very poignant to me, about him, and in regards on how far he thinks SR has fallen.

Reality is union is dead in Australia now

I doubt super rugby will even exist ten years down the track it’s so irrelevant (a league too)

Union got delusions of grandeur and thought it could take over in nsw and qld and wasted all its money

that battle was lost in 1910

The only thing that might save them is massive foreign investment. It might happen for the A-League

It’s barely keeping them alive now

each club loses major money each year

the hope is every four years they make the World Cup and get money from that

I think they got 26 million from the last World Cup

plus they are charging for new licenses

but it’s unsustainable on their crowds and tv ratings

They tried to get a pe deal before and the amount offered was 30 million

the solution for super rugby is joining with Japan and less Aussie teams

if they just had nsw and qld the teams would be of a decent standard to compete with nz

The moneys in Japan (and in WA lol). Im surprised they havent already looked there rather than worry about if Australia can keep up. The financial spin offs for increased interest in the All Black brand in Japan would be massive.

Problem would be the quality of the Japanese sides is even worse than the Australian ones.

BAHAHAHAHA you know your entire thread is in trouble when you have to lie and post irrelevant articles in a post to try and "score points".
Your entire attack thread was that, and i quote, "New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ Rugby".

Since then we have had the only competition to SkyTV go under, meaning a decrease in the next lot of rights.
An NZR report that shows Super Rugby amounts to a massive 8% of their revenue.
A report that despite falling crowds TV viewing numbers for Super Rugby in NZ are rising year on year.

So what we have is you and your boyfriend posting irrelevant articles about teams NOT in NZ, or not even on the this side of the world, because deep down you know you are just wrong...

It's funny, extremely lame, but funny.

TBH if I was NZ Rugby I’d just f**k super Rugby off and fold it back into whatever the NPC is called these days with two divisions, and let Fiji and Moana Pasifika be part of it.

Funny you should say that... while not the NPC, it's not far off.

Yeah, because international audiences really wanna see Southland vs Manawatu in the pouring invercargill rain - right? ;)

Two separate national leagues would be the best outcome for everybody. Chuck some sort of champions league together to fill out the season as well.

It'd hurt in the short term, but it'd be their best chance for growth in the long term.

You're entire argument is based on 1 article ? The journalist knows a mate who knows a mate you had access to the top secret figures that show tv ratings are growing year on year ? That would make Super Rugby the only sport in history where the stadium audience isn't a direct indicator to the TV audience ie: decreasing year on year.

The original question was would a second team in NZ make a dent in Rugby ? The answer is Yes it absolutely would.
