I have never lived and have no desire to ever live in Australia.
So if the NRL injected millions in funding for juniors and pathways in the greater Wellington area over a few years before any team being placed there, would you be behind it?

Not just Wellington, In other regions as well. Otherwise Wellington would pull the few players left in other regions killing the comps there. They need to fund the NZRL to allow the comps in all regions to get back onto an even footing before bringing in another team.

Totally agree.
The original proposal did state as such.
Provided a similar proposal came forward, I'm glad you'd support it.

"NRL CEO Andrew Abdo first publicly raised the possibility of a second Kiwi team being admitted to the Telstra Premiership in an interview with NRL.com in March and the ARLC has increased funding for junior pathways and coaching development in New Zealand."

"The emergence of a possible second Kiwi team coincides with a renewed focus on development in New Zealand through the introduction of a national under-20s competition and plans for under-16s and under-18s competitions."

That guy is a con man and I wouldn't support anything he put forward, not that it matters now, he lost is funding.
The funding model now in the NRL is a club grant of around 17 million annually and 12 million cap. Meaning all clubs are profitable currently and into the future.
If the NRL wanted a second NZ team, there will be plenty of people put their hand up to bid.
Increased funding for junior pathways and development, and increased professional presence that would allow local players to stay in NZ and play professionally. An increase in Rugby league awareness and overall profile of the sport helping local clubs attract juniors.

I would be great for rl in NZ.

Tell that to St George.

Unless there is millions spent well before hand there wont be the juniors to fill the pathways, most districts and provinces are barely hanging on. Wellington is no exception. Of the three Junior clubs I played for one 1 is still around.

Well that's sad mate, I'm totally behind you on that. More need to be done to support local clubs. In Australia there's grants and funding from government for sport that are mostly non discriminatory. I remember playing as a junior my parents were given at least equal the club fees.
It would be great to see more initiative from the NRL but in reality they've already started that process. However it won't have an immediate impact but over time things will improve.

That may have been true once upon a time, but the lack of kids playing contact sports is more of an issue than anything else. We are in the second playstation generation where kids would rather play online than outside. It's been getting worse for 30 years and I can't see that changing. But investing in clubs and getting them the tools to try and get kids involved might work, but that needs to come from somewhere. It's not going to come from the NZRL, they are broke, the ARL(Auckland one) still has plenty of money from the sale of Carlaw Park, but even they can't turn around the trend. It needs the millions from the NRL, and years of it.

It's certainly true and sad. The positive though is the emergence of touch and tag and the ability for us to nurture the talented kids through gives us the great entertainment we see today.

Yes but it would damage Australian nrl clubs, good luck convincing them to be altruistic for the sake of NZ RL
