New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I imagine a big cost is travel.

easy solution is to split into a few areas (divisions) and only come together in the finals.

If not, at least a North Island or Great Aukland league to get started

There is already that in place. the "regional" champs... but that only runs for a month or so. There needs to be a comp that will keep the players in there region. It just costs too much.

I would imagine it working like the Cowboys has it set-up.
Very effective.

That's still "local" there is still a big difference to having a feeder team in another country a club is responsible for. I still maintain an NZRL driven, properly funded, regionally based "Club" comp would keep the players close to home, allow them to develop, and develop off each other. But that will take millions a year, so I don't see it ever happening.

Well the Cowboys are doing it successfully and their feeder teams are each 400km away in opposite directions. Melbourne Storm has generated decades of success on the back of feeder clubs 1400km away.
The geographical area to feed 2 nz teams across nz is well within those proven parameters.
If we want ( and we do) another nz team to help develop pathways for more talent, this achieves that.

That was because of gould when he was at the warriors he convinced them to do it

now he’s left there won’t be anyone with influence pushing for more
If the ARLC is deciding strategy and policy based on where Gould is employed we really are in trouble!

Are you suggesting the Warriors and a new NZ2 club are going to fund this $20mill a year 7 club feeder comp? That seems ambitious!

Currently the Warriors are flying a nsw cup, Jersey fleg ect to another country every other week.
This is likely a cheaper and more fruitful alternative.
Having 1 feeder team pails in comparison to Having multiple prospects across 3 to 4 clubs ( almost all nrl teams have at least 2) in your backyard!
Only viable on the basis that there's another NRL team in NZ doing the same thing.

Then the game dies in the regions. We need to keep players in their own areas until they are almost first grade standard so others can get to that level. Centralising players in two areas will kill the game outside of it.

That's right, if nz 2 got the go ahead both them and the Warriors should be getting their talent from a National comp, not 2 nsw cup teams.
Fortunately I think that it would become a natural evolution.
2 NRL teams is nz opens a pathway to develop pathways and players within new Zealand.

Yeah the Cowboys have got this right. There's a QLD cup side as a stepping stone for most players across North Queensland.
Before the Cowboys, there wasn't really anything. Players had to move to Brisbane or Sydney.
Hopefully a New NZ team will work much the same, especially for the sake of juniors.

But a "national" comp has to be funded first. That's millions a year, the only organisation that can provide that kind of funding is the NRL. The Warriors and any new team wont be able to run it, or fund it. It will end up with what happened when the warriors came in. And the talent will centralise in two area instead of one.

Th Cowboys has 3 feeder clubs in different areas, so do the Storm.

The Warriors can't spread their talent across 8 clubs the length and width of new Zealand so it became 1 that flys to Australia.
But they can across 3 or 4 clubs across half the country. Obviously that's not a comp
But if there's another club that's doing the same thing- then you have a comp and it can grow! You could even have a Samoa side and a Tongan side.

Given the lack of revenue the nzrl has and the ltd revenue a second tier comp can generate your asking warriors and another club to effectively fund a 7 team pro comp? just can’t see it.
clubs now are linked to nsw or qlnd cup clubs that have pokie dens funding them. The nrl clubs put in relatively little to the likes of bears, falcons, tigers, or Blacktown.

Those feeder teams play in higher level comps. There needs to be a higher level comp for these teams to play in. One that keeps the best talent playing against the rest to improve everyone. A comp that has locals playing for the regional team, otherwise it is just centralising the talent and the regions lose players and their comps dry up. The Hawkes Bay is gone, the West Coast, the central North Island are almost gone. Kawerau used to be a solid League town that developed some of the best players in the country, League is finding it very hard there now while Rugby now has a solid presence.

Geez, I don't think you understand the implications that post has for a Perth team.
Anyway, they're had comps before. This will be the same thing with some stars and a I'm going to say 6 million.
Each NRL club using 3 million to develop players is nothing out of the ordinary.

Well all the talent that in new Zealand stays and plays in new Zealand and achieves exactly that under this model.

Not sure the link to perth? Perth will have one reserve grade team playing out of perth likely in nsw cup, and likely a link up with another qlnd or nsw cup team in that comps region, but it won’t pay much for the link up.

A decent second FT tier club costs $2mill plus a year to run, then you have the costs of ft refs, travel etc of running the comp. You think 2 NZ nrl clubs are funding that? For 7 clubs?
itd be nice but unless nzrl suddenly turns it’s $8mill ayear revenue into $80mill it’s not going to happen.

I wouldn't know where to start with what's wrong with that statement and I've got better shit to do then talk to you.

It's not just about staying in NZ.

If you have an 8-10 team 16 week comp draws draws 250-300 players from fifty clubs. They play and get better, they then go back for the local comp and those 250-300 players play with in 50-60 clubs, making those they play with better. They have a clear pathway from local comp, to regional comp, to NRL player.
Your model takes another 60-100 players out of regions and that's it. There is no return to their regional and local clubs and teams. no chance to learn from those players. No real development.
