I have to ask, because I'm pretty sure I know the answer, would Perth Union fans go to a Perth Pirates NRL game?
You know what I'm getting at here.
It could very well be that Christchurch Rugby fans may choose to watch an NRL team as well, not necessarily "change to NRL".
I would say that Perth Rugby fans would also go to a Perth Pirates NRL game, and become fans.
There's lots of kiwis here and every kiwi I've ever known likes both league and union. They don't love one and hate the other like most Aussies do.

The saffers probably wouldn’t

given how small their crowds are now a Perth nrl team doesn’t need them

There's usually the odd Force jersey at a NRL game. But no I dont expect large scale conversion to happen lol. Union types are an odd breed and still look down on league as a lessor sport played by lessor people.

NZ is none of the above, and in fact most areas of the country actively dislike our code and the TV money isn't there.
a lot of projecting there mate. As multiple Kiwis have pointed out there isn’t the animosity between league and union in NZ that there is in Aus. The whole class divide thing doesn’t really exist there, except maybe in a few posh suburbs. Many kiwis happily follow both codes and most sports fans like seeing the Warriors do well. You might find a new team would struggle to gain traction in particularly union dominant spots like Dunedin but that’s not where a new team would be based or draw most support from anyway. From what I’ve seen areas with large Māori/PI populations especially always seem to have plenty of league fans.

The reality is New Zealand has the most talented Rugby players on the planet.
1 team in the NRL..?
Lunacy.
That’s a good question of australia or nz has the best rugby (either code) players

which is why the bledisloe is pathetic they play the dregs of Australian rugby talent

meanwhile the kiwis are up against the best rugby players on earth and manage to beat them regularly

For the millionth time

kiwis aren’t your normal toff union w@nkers like England or Australia

it’s actually also a working class sport (elite also)

kiwi rugby has always been about running the ball, you know like rugby league

we now have the added bonus of super rugby going to the toilet
Spot on. The wall that separates union & league fans/communities isn't as rigid here as in some other parts of the world - and we have a good pool of fans that are kinda like "swing voters" in elections.

If the product captures the imagination of those fans, they'll watch & engage with the sport.

Heavy rain expected Friday wonder how that affects the crowd

I suspect the warriors prefer a dry track so the upset is a good chance

Crowd aside, it strikes me a good opportunity for the Warriors to fine-tune their wet weather game-plan.

The performance against Souths exposed that as a weakness for the squad. I think that will definitely be a "work on" that Webby has firmly in mind.

They have an easy run home

it won’t happen but they could win every game plus still have a bye as well

they haven’t made the top four in ages

I hope so, it’s definitely something we need to work on. Crowd will lose a few k, inevitable in shit weather but it’ll still be healthy.

Wouldn’t necessarily say it won’t happen. They’re strong favourites for every one of those games at this point and they’ve reliably won as favourites against lower ranked teams this year. Tomorrows game against the Raiders is the hardest game left.

Are you a Warriors fan mate?
Yep, since 1995 - before that I actually cheered for the Bears - not a member or passionate hardcore supporter , but if I had to pick one club I liked pre-1994, they were it.

Anyway, once we got our own ARL competition club in '95, the choice to become more of a supporter (and I was a member for a while) and go for the Warriors was an easy one for me.

[Edit] Before anyone asks.. if a 2nd NZ team happens, I'd consider my options. I probably wouldn't switch to a Christchurch-based team, unless Wellington - my home city - was in their "catchment" - whatever that's shaped as.. (say, a home games split) I'd definitely switch to support a Wellington-based team though.

For some weird reason, considering the year NZ has had with rain, floods, cyclones the Warriors seem to be unable to handle wet conditions. It will not surprise me at all if we lose this one. But unlike the last decade I wont be surprised at all if we win it too.

I'm almost imagining we could make the top 4 this year, which is surely setting myself up for disappointment.
