I'll give you an A for effort this time round given that you haven't tried to move the goalposts, but I'm still looking for confirmation from a source from the NRL itself rather than a "journo" who posts on twitter like he's your long lost doppelgänger.

Well done warriors, good to see some support away from home... especially since Wellington at the start of the season looked only half full, maybe if they scheduled that game vs the knights later in the season, maybe sky stadium would have hit capacity

Good point.

Keeping in mind, at round 1 the Warriors were very much an unknown proposition.

Yeah, there's the promise that comes with a new coach.. but getting some form "on the board" is the difference between your hardcore base of 10-15k plus a few casual/walk-up fans - versus breaking 20k and even giving 30k a nudge.

It isn't so much about fans ditching union. It is attracting the most talented athletes to the NRL. Fans generally follow the best athletes. That doesn't mean they ditch old loyalties but pick up new ones.

Then stretch that out over 20 years or a generation or 2 and who knows.
Rugby is a religion in NZ and it unites families believe it or not.
Kids growing up want to play for the All Blacks, it's endocrinated into them.
You ask any 18yr old over there who would they rather play for...All Blacks every time.
Code switch after completing their dream to chase the dollar is their second choice...I could be wrong as I haven't lived there for over 20 years.

There are more ppl wearing Warriors jerseys than ABs jersey around Auckland these days.

Regarding attracting the best athletes, every kid wants to be an All Black until an NRL team comes along and offers them triple the money. While the top ABs get paid pretty well, in coming years as the NRL cap grows at 75m per season the nzru will have a fight on thier hands keeping the top talent at schoolboy level...aka the next generation of stars.

Gotcha. Do you live in Auckland because when I was there, what you said was the reverse?

With the sell out at Waikato and other great crowds outside Auckland the nrl needs another team as the warriors can’t fill the void

I think you're both wrong. :D

Rugby's not a religion in NZ (not since the 60s really), but also players just aren't swapping in big numbers for the money. The fat Dolphins wing is the kind of player that's swapping and he's not the cream of the crop. Hell, even a guy like the current Warriors captain only switched because he couldn't get an academy place with Hawkes Bay.

Is that the biggest club rugby crowd in Waikato this year ?

25,118 according to LU Match Report. Crowd for the Super Rugby Final @ Hamilton is listed on Wikipedia as exactly 25,000.

Edit: Could be wrong but I think that is the biggest club rugby crowd of either code in NZ this year.
