I’m not sure rugby league is in its death bed in NZ at all. It’s been in better shape but until we see how it and other sports revive after Covid, and we aren’t there yet, you don’t know.
The NRL and it’s NZ counterparts have a vested interest in strengthening the game and I can’t see a reason why they won’t. I find it a bit strange though that somebody can be so totally negative about league as you are on a league forum as you are . Each to their own I suppose but you sure enjoy death riding our code.
Pointing out the realities of rugby league in New Zealand and Australia isn't pessimistic. I'm glad we have New Zealanders giving us a realistic view of the landscape in the The Shaky Isles.
There's a lot of NSWRL fans on here who've deluded themselves into thinking the world revolves around Sydney. The narrative on this board is the NRL only needs a vastly oversaturated Sydney market based around nine financially u viable teams with minimal investment in New Zealand and the rest of the country to be the number one code across the Pacific. It's bullshit and there's no evidence to support their delusional view. The claims they pluck out of their arse to prop up their delusional views are bizarre. I've seen people persist with the absurd claim that a Perth team wouldn't be able to fly to and from the east coast, despite other sporting leagues managing it to do it for 40 years.
There's the farcical claim that Sydney needs nine NRL teams because if it only has eight or less then everyone will go support the Swans, despite fumbleball being "shit" and having no support.
Don't forget the nutters who think we need to "bring back the Bears" because apparently everyone on the North Shore became a paid up member of the Swans in 2000 and are the only people in Sydney who support fumbleball.
We have a great game that everyone on this board thinks is the best, but we need to realise not everyone shares the same sentiment. Plonking a second team in New Zealand won't convert RU fans into RL fanatics like us. We're a shrinking minority because the media is no longer limited to covering RL only. The cashed up and national AwFuL and global brands like the NFL, NBA and EPL are broadcast all over the country. Children get to watch them all while they're still impressionable and not set in their ways.
