For who? You? The NRL? seems that there is 2 govts pitching in for PNG, none for perth, and nz2 is using facebook to pitch to investors and are claiming they can enter by 2026, i think youre in love with an area not the bid or really what it can offer... thats called dots on a map approach OR ..... dont like 3rd world country having 1st world experiences
Putting an NRL team in a 3rd world country means that it would be dependent on government handouts indefinitely.

will the Aussie government fund this indefinitely mate?

No, he said that they're not ready and need to build pathways first.
They don't have his support.
He never said he wouldn't support them, just that he wouldn't if they were in cairns and not in PNG itself, the rest is inconsequential to the argument, he isn't on the bid team nor would he know its inner workings, besides signed up with the tigers just a few weeks back, how smart is his opinion

Again how does that matter to you? Are you forking it out? Tax dollars are spent by governments doing random things all the time, do you think we need a rebuild of certain stadiums for the Olympics? Or that Tasmanian one for the next AFL team, is liechardt and henson park really that nessesary?...

He didn't mention race but you did...

There's only one person in this interaction who's focussed on race as a possible negative??
That's you. You're racist.
Just trying to find the motivation of why this particular bid stinks for him, seems that govt money isn't worthy, and they are getting it anyways...

It matters to me because the project would be at the mercy of politicians and I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t trust a politician as far as I could throw them.

Okay, don't hand them the licence, but don't drag it down if it on the up and up.. its a shame that we are so negative to jump on helping a foreign country achieve something great, this could very well be a game changer for png, for us its meh

Investing in the hunters and their junior grade teams as well as the schools game and the digicel cup wouse help the kumuls far more than some pie in the sky vanity project.

The product is the NRL competition.

A PNG team, 3rd world country, based in Australia, with a vastly diminished roster because of that will live on the bottom of the ladder .

It will taint our entire product, our competition as a whole- the NRL will be worth less, less to broadcasters, less to sponsors and less to me personally. My tax money will be spent pulling down the quality of the NRL..

In fact, once we factor the running costs and the overall net lost of the value of the NRL as a brand you'll find if far exceeds 60 million pa.

We're are taking games to Vegas , this adds to the prestige of the competition- adds value.
PNG diminishes the prestige dramatically- erodes value.

PNG is a solid no from me.

Look at the history of the nswrl and how long it took newly promoted clubs to get off the bottom of the ladder

A game changer for the NRL, PNG and rugby league in general would be to get as many kumuls playing at the highest level and increase the talent pool for the PNG national team to pick from allowing them to beat the likes of England, New Zealand and Australia on a regular occurrence.
