With CNKs from last year you can’t really displace him, particularly as he played a vital distribution and organisational role in many of the Warriors structures- this is something RTS isn’t quite as strong at. There’s a bigger gap between the 2 at centre (in RTS favour) than fullback.
Trial form satisfied me (outside of maybe an improved distribution game) that RTS will succeed at centre. However it’s a great problem to have

If the form isn’t great then that’s the swap I’d make

rts is probably the most talented player in the side

Another idea would be to have a home game the same weekend Crusaders host Highlanders. Then assuming they are playing a game or two in Dunedin try and schedule one when Highlanders host Crusaders.

The risk is they would be competing for people’s time & money on the same weekend as a NZ Super Rugby derby. The hope would be to get a fair bit of interest in people attending both.

I'd definitely fly over for a double header, but obviously wouldn't bother going to either a Crusaders or SI 2 game.

Yea he makes some good points, albeit nothing really new. His point about how the game should be more focused on giving fans what they want is IMO the key one though.

WR’s priority at the moment seems to be on reducing liability with constant changes to tackle laws, and reducing criticism by trying to make the officiating ‘perfect’ with incessant TMO interventions.

The NRL’s tinkering doesn’t always work but at least it (mostly) stems from wanting to improve the spectacle for fans. Being the quasi-world governing body helps of course, but they still have to make the right decisions and they’ve done a far better job of that than the dinosaurs at WR.

I know he's talking from the Auztralian perspective when he says "National club competition, then a reduced super rugby" but that structure causes problems for NZ's setup - trying to "fit in" NPC (Provincial champs)... unless the super rugby NZ franchises are disbanded & replaced by Provinces.

TRANS-TASMAN EXPANSION​

Sunday’s double header at Allegiant Stadium could be the preamble to more sustained offshore growth via the launch of a second NRL team in New Zealand.

While a Papua New Guinea franchise remains the frontrunner to win the NRL’s 18th licence, possibly by 2026 or 2027, V’landys says the prospect of expanding to New Zealand’s south island is real.

As part of moves to eventually expand to a 20-team league, V’landys wants a greater national and international footprint. That means franchises in Western Australia – the Perth Bears have been touted as a 19th team – while the NRL see promise in a second Kiwi outfit based in Christchurch.

“A second New Zealand team has merit,” V’landys said.

“Maybe not as the 18th team, because we are looking to PNG with the support of the Australian government, but it certainly has merit if we go to 20 teams.

“When Nick Politis (Roosters chairman) says we should be considering 20 teams, you certainly do it because he is a very successful businessman.

“The Warriors have been wonderful for the game _ there is a lot of support in New Zealand.

“When someone of Nick’s success says we must look at 20 teams, we’re going to look at it. And we should have a strategy to get there at a certain time, whether that’s three years, five years or 10 years.”

I think PNG, Perth and NZ2 are the three obvious frontrunners now, they’re the options that NRL HQ seem to be eyeing. In what order? Good question. Outside those 3 I think Brisbane 3 is the only other one with any realistic prospect, could see it replacing PNG if it turns out the logistics of lthat prove too difficult.
