In traditional league states they reflect the top talent who have a chance of making nrl

elsewhere they are like Auskick numbers
He just lies, then when the lie is found, he moves the goal post , you argue that while he shifts the goal posts again. Eventually you're back at the original lie...and the process starts again.

I had a feeling the wahs might struggle this year and their form has been a bit meh

they aren’t a top four side right now

rts to fullback might change that as the last game showed

that kid they have playing fullback now is ok but not on par
They’ve showed signs it just hasn’t clicked for 80mins yet, Think we took the Sharks a bit lightly (who played very well) and took the foot off the throat after looking like we were going to coast it first 30mins.
Storm was a poor start but when we switched it on after halftime we looked very good and it took a freak try against us to lose.
Raiders a scrappy win but a win nonetheless- people forget we are missing a few key players from last year in Egan, niukore, CNK.
Jury still out on full back, can see Webbys reasoning in ‘next man up’ policy with Tuaupiki slotting in for CNK as to only disrupt 1 position rather than 2. Charnze was a vital cog in our backline plays last year (that have been rusty without him) and he is as solid as RTS in defence. Yes Roger is a better attacking player but we have a net gain with in the team with Roger at Centre and Cnk at the back. (RTS great fullback/above good Center, CNK above good full back/ average Centre)

Rts try or the raiders could’ve won

need a good year from the wahs this year and next so we can get nz2 then they can revert to type

rts is a champion and it’s like he never left the game

but it is very early in the season

I really hope that you’re right mate but PVL has gone to some length talking this nonsense up including a visit to the White House.
If he can make Png work, then theres no place that can't work, we've discussed Perth and Adelaide and NZ2 at nauseam but we all know they can work, if there is enough talent to spread around the game like it was in '95-'97, BUT realistically it just ended up draining the quality of the league, and then the game went into crisis mode merging and cull it back to 14
Do we really want that again? Yes it might give the Sydney clubs a kick up the arse otherwise mergers or demotions could happen, but the worst part will be culling the clubs outside that Sydney bubble, are we ready to give up on gold coast again? Shit like that will cripple the game as it did back then, the comp will always have struggling teams, but the match ups are generally exciting if they are all full of quality players, we need to go to where there is athletes who have the ability to focus on being FT NRL players, not to areas that are competing with rival codes for athletes

The culling and mergers was financial rather than game quality.
Back then the game couldnt afford to fund 20 clubs. It was as recent as 2014 that there was still talk of some clubss not being financially viable and possibly needing to merge or drop out. Fast forward and we are now at a point where NRl is funding clubs significantly over the cap, crowds, stadiums and sponsors are leading to record profits for clubs and clubs are no longer reliant on pokie funding to stay afloat.

Back in 95 and 96 there was a dilution of talent and some clubs were pretty dire. Alas due to SL we never got chance to see if it eventually improved itself. There might be some short term pain bringing another 3 clubs in over the next decade but its hard to say how much.

Interestingly the gap between 20th and 1st in 1996 was 28 points.
The gap in 2023 between 17th and 1st was also 28 points!

The points difference of bottom placed teams was -276 in 1996. In 2023 it was -290.

Why does that matter? Bulldogs last year was -331
Penriths were 333, maybe thats what you need to look at top vs lowest, tigers might have come last but bulldogs were leaking the most points.. in 1996, cowboys leaked the most points..-355, but
Seeing though it was year2 into the ARL and SL was tearing clubs apart, it was better to check later after SL war effects wore off
As far as quality drop off in the late 90s, 1998 is where you needed to look at not '96, 1998 is where we had the 20 team comp, after the SL and magpies on -431 versus broncos ontop with 378, that is the glaring gap we were worried about when you expand too quickly, it also suggested we had either too many teams or moreso too many poorly run teams,

2001 the difference was 28 points and a points difference gap of
+433 to -326 with a 14 team comp! there’s no evidence less teams equal closer competition.
