Depending on how patient you are Wellington might get a team around 2040 lol

let’s be honest nobody in their wildest dreams pre covid would’ve said nz would have two nrl teams

there was talk by Sydney journos that the warriors themselves should be kicked out for another qld team
My best hope in the short term is that NZ 2 happens soonest, and the two NZ clubs get into a mad "turf war" over secondary markets - one that makes home-away-from-home games a vital cog in getting active fans (and revenue) from elsewhere in NZ.

Nz2 could be team 19

maybe 18 in the very unlikely case png blows up at a late stage

I said before the nrl should buy other nrl clubs warriors / nz2 games and play them all over nz

To be honest as a Wellington (well, Hutt Valley) based Warriors fan, I feel shunned by the club I love.

Why spurn us for Christchurch when Christchurch are probably getting their own team soon enough?? It makes NO SENSE.
lol only people from the Hutt distinguish it as seperate from Wellington ;) (My wife is from Upper Hutt). I lived in Petone for a bit and went to a few of the Bulldogs/Raiders ‘home’ games, the Warriors certainly have huge support around the country but they tend to take it for granted a bit.
But yes a bit too little too late Warriors chucking in with ChCh when they look at getting a team, especially whilst spurning Wellington (did they only ramp that up once the Orcas bid started?)
South Island have already shunned Wellington from the outset could make things interesting how support splits with NZ 2

Think it will be a long time before NZ3 comes along especially if you consider NRL have been a bit cold on Brisbane 3 which has a much higher chance of success.
Wouldn’t say NZ2 is a wildest dream case it’s been coming up periodically for the last 2 decades, many thought(perhaps naively) the Orcas were a strong chance.
The knives have been out for the Warriors expulsion from almost day 1, be it when they went to Superleague, when they went bankrupt in 2000 or covid when the Bears were gagging to take their place, the comments in almost any Warriors social media post you will see some redneck post asking why they’re in a ‘national’ comp. Truth is Warriors bring in much more than they cost and give NRL a 1 up in the pissing contest with AFL

It’s not a case of PNG blowing up, it's all the work that's needed for PNG. For PNG to be up and running and be a successful smooth operation, we're talking 10 years.
You mistakenly think that the next team announcement will be the next team, when in reality they could announce PNG next with a logical 5 to 10 years planning.
The next team is South Island NZ in 2026.

The Warriors are currently the NRL's biggest asset occupying 5 million population market a succeeding single handed ,bringing in an additional 30 million PA in broadcast rights and offering another TV time slot.
If I said show me a bigger club, you could only say the Broncos and in 2024 deciding what metric you use is debatable.
The Warriors are far and away the best decision the NRL has ever made in expanding.
But the NRL has made plenty of great additions:
Newcastle
Canberra
Cowboys
Gold Coast
Melbourne
Dolphins

Add the South Island..f**k yeah.

Federal money is conditional on an nrl team

they won’t be waiting a long time to get at that money

If the Arlc wasn’t making a profit from nz and all the players they produce they never would’ve been so patient

I think pvl gets it whereas previous leaders have done sfa

there’s nothing stopping the nrl going to 24 teams down the track and Brisbane tigers and Wellington would be the two strongest bids vs Adelaide or central coast or pacific islands

In some metrics the Warriors are massive. There's one metric when they're second last. Revenue from football operations. TV ratings in Australia are poor, too.

Hopefully they can generate more revenue from ticketing, merchandise and membership. They have a lot of active support. It's just a matter of converting it into more money.
It will only go to the owners pocket as profit

pretty sure they don’t spend the full salary cap for most years either

plus people have said it may not be current
